COWICHAN VALLEY – The Duncan Cowichan Chamber of Commerce is set to guide the region’s business community into 2025 with renewed focus and purpose. At its Annual General Meeting on November 26, the Chamber unveiled bold strategies to foster economic growth, amplify advocacy, and deliver greater value for its members.
Advocacy: The Core of Chamber Leadership
Advocacy remains at the heart of the Chamber’s mission as it leads the Cowichan business community into 2025. At its Annual General Meeting, Chamber President David van Deventer reaffirmed the organization’s dedication to tackling key challenges such as housing, labour shortages, and rising costs. “Our role is to ensure the voice of Cowichan businesses is heard at all levels of government,” he noted. One example is the West Vista Terrace Development, a transformative project that the Chamber helped advocate for, blending excellent access, stunning views, and proximity to the planned Regional Hospital. This development is set to meet growing demands for services, temporary accommodations, and housing, further bolstering the region’s growth.
Through its connection to the BC Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber amplifies these efforts on the provincial stage, ensuring that Cowichan businesses remain competitive, resilient, and positioned for success in a rapidly evolving economic landscape.
A Vision for 2025
The Chamber’s 2025 Strategic Plan outlines ambitious goals to enhance member services, strengthen advocacy, and build meaningful partnerships. A key focus is on fostering connection and growth through events like the Dine & Sip Cowichan Festival, celebrating local food and drink, and the Amazing Race Cowichan, a team-building event that promotes collaboration and fun. Signature occasions like the biennial Black Tie Business Achievement Awards honour excellence and innovation, reflecting the Chamber’s commitment to celebrating Cowichan’s vibrant business landscape.
In line with its vision, the Chamber plans to deepen collaboration with community stakeholders, champion local economic policies, and expand programs that provide direct benefits to its members. “Together, we’re shaping a brighter future for Cowichan businesses,” said Executive Director Sonja Nagel.
Celebrating Community Leadership
The evening also honoured Fatima Da Silva of Nourish Cowichan with the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award for her tireless work addressing food insecurity in the region. Her dedication exemplifies the Chamber’s belief in the power of collaboration to build stronger communities.
Building a Stronger Business Community
With over 630 members, the Duncan Cowichan Chamber continues to be a driving force for economic resilience, professional development, and collaborative growth. Through advocacy, networking, and member support, the Chamber empowers businesses to thrive in a rapidly changing economy.
