DUNCAN – The Duncan Cowichan Chamber of Commerce celebrated small businesses in our community during Small Business Week October 17 – 21, 2022.  Like many island communities, the Cowichan Region is home to a rich tapestry of small businesses who live, raise families, support local and volunteer in our communities. We thank them for their vital role in keeping money and livelihoods local and going strong during Small Business Week 2022.

The Chamber celebrates small businesses every day of the year, but Small Business Week is an opportunity to highlight and give gratitude to the small businesses that are the foundation of our local economy and community. We applaud you! And to honour you, we will be continuing to use the hashtags #WeHeartSmallBiz and #ToSmallBizWithGratitude during the month of October.

The BC Chamber of Commerce celebrated #SmallBizWeek with a 2022 Small Business Week Summit featuring complimentary virtual sessions for employers. Business owners heard from experts with insights on the most important issues facing employers in today’s challenging business environment. Sessions included: An economic outlook in Uncertain Times – How to focus forward and not just survive but thrive; The critical role of business in our reconciliation journey; Prioritizing mental health in the workplace; Cyber risk requires cyber security – Are you safe; Climate change readiness for small business – What you need to know.

Our Chamber considers small businesses to be less than ten employees, which represents 75 % of our growing membership.  That is why we spend our time focused on advocating on issues that affect small businesses, in collaboration with Chamber colleagues across the Island and the Province through the BC Chamber of Commerce network. We are in this together.

We’ve welcomed many small businesses to the Chamber network in October: Turn Back Time, Bromar Construction, E-Porter, This Rides 4 U, Little Town Pizza, Brian Danyliw – The Agency, Falcon Home Inspections, Vibe Media Group, Chris Wilkinson Coaching, Envision Healing and NAI Commercial Central Vancouver Island.
