NANAIMO – Making a choice to focus on construction management as a project delivery model has propelled Tectonica to the top of the charts of the Vancouver Island construction Industry.
With commercial, industrial, institutional, retail and residential projects across Central Vancouver Island, Tectonica has built a considerable reputation for strong values, dedication to clients and a highly successful approach to construction and project management.
In 2024 Tectonica was recognized at the Vancouver Island Business Excellence Awards as the Medium Sized Business of the Year and received top honours in two categories of the Vancouver Island Commercial Building Awards with Duo Townhomes and Discover Montessori School. Discover Montessori School also won top honours overall at the event.

“We believe that construction management, where the construction manager works as the owner’s agent, results in a more collaborative and creative design and construction process,” says Michelle Hall, who is one of three directors of the company, along with Darren Moss and Florian Schulz. “We assemble and lead teams that design and construct complex and challenging projects that would be otherwise challenging to complete under more traditional project delivery models, whether that challenge be cost, schedule, construction complexity, and constraints of existing conditions, heritage reconstruction standards, or challenges with the municipal approvals processes.”
Their industry experience is reinforced by the diverse expertise of their team in professional fields such as architectural building technology, engineering, real estate, and development. Tectonica’s set of guiding values have made them a popular choice for clients, consisting of local governments, education organizations, health authorities, large and small developers and private commercial property owners. These bedrock principles include a persistent desire to add value to their client’s planning, design and construction processes through rigorous, creative, thoughtful, and professional application of their considerable skills and experience.

Tectonica’s team transformed the Norwell Professional Centre into a new Urgent Patient Care Clinic in Nanaimo
“In our model, the owner typically hires us at the same time as the architect, and we work as an integral part of the design team as the construction expert providing reliable information on constructability, cost and schedule in addition to managing most or all aspects of permitting and approvals,” Hall explains.
Tectonica’s approach and value proposition is clearly convincing, having made and continuing to make their mark on the Island. Their most recent project completion involved the transformation of the Norwell Professional Centre into a new Urgent Patient Care Clinic for Nanaimo. The successful completion of the project within schedule and budget constraints is a great example of the strength of a project team with long standing relationships.

“We feel incredibly fortunate to have access to a talented network of consultants and tradespeople in our area. Their expertise, professionalism, and dedication make all the difference in delivering successful projects,” says Hall.
Tectonica is proud to be a part of the transformative project, where they had the privilege of breathing new life into a 47-year-old building to create a much-needed urgent patient care clinic that will make a lasting impact on the health and well-being of our community.
A small sampling of other recently completed projects include the Community Health Services Building, Duncan the Orthopaedic and Referral Centre for Animals, Nanaimo, a full waterline replacement in the Beacon Condominium, Nanaimo as well as a notable ongoing collaboration with the Uchucklesaht Tribe Government which has resulted in the revitalization of the Historic Ehthlateese Village on the Kildonan Inlet over the past 5 years. The project includes installation of improved infrastructure and 14 new homes, substantial renovation of the existing short-term accommodation building and construction of a new Wellness Centre for their citizens living in and returning to the community.
In response to requests from a number of clients, Tectonica started the Facilities Management Division of the company in 2021. The division is headed by Jeff Seneviratne with support from Michelle Hall and utilizes Tectonica’s staff and experience to provide high quality facility management services to assist their clients in achieving ongoing property objectives.
“Our objective is to provide building owners with the operating and maintenance services to satisfy the landlord commitments set out in their lease agreements while optimizing building resources, reducing long-term costs and enhancing the experience for the building occupants,” Hall points out.
As Tectonica continues to evolve and respond to the needs of its clients, the Facilities Management Division stands as a natural extension of the company’s expertise and commitment to relationship-building.
By integrating their teams’ core values with innovative software solutions, deep industry knowledge, and strong trade partnerships, the division ensures that properties remain well-maintained and efficiently managed.
