Comox Hires Outside Firms To Rewrite Its Subdivision Bylaw

September 4, 2015

COMOX – The Town of Comox has taken steps to make the process of developing a subdivision in the community easier. In a media release the Town stated that it had undertaken a comprehensive review and update of its Subdivision and Development Servicing Bylaw. The Town initiated the update to provide greater clarity and certainty for the development community, town staff and end users.

The envisioned changes will consolidate and streamline the community’s existing bylaws while providing the Town of Comox clarity in administering the development review process. The updated bylaw will make it easier for both residents and developers to understand the Town’s development policies and will ultimately support the Town’s commitment to building more sustainable infrastructure.

To carry out the rewriting of the existing bylaw the Town has retained Vancouver-based Arlington Group Planners and Civil Engineering firm, R. F. Binnie & Associates of Burnaby. The task will be carried out in conjunction with a working oversight by the Town of Comox’s Planning, Engineering and Parks staff.

The revised bylaw will update specification drawings, revamp the bylaw content and layout so it is easier to navigate and administer. The team will also be revising the current application forms to provide consistency, a digital format, and to make it easier to fill out and email from a personal computer.

During the rewriting process the Town will be consulting with stakeholders and holding an Open House for residents and businesses to review and provide comment on the proposed changes. The date for the Open House has not been announced, but it is expected to take place in the fall.
