NANAIMO – As a highlight of Small Businesses Week (October 18-24) Community Futures Central Island will be hosting My Biz Day on Wednesday, October 21. Organized jointly by Small Business BC and the local Community Futures office, My Biz Day is a free conference, trade show and networking opportunity designed specifically for small business owners, or those interested in opening a small business. The day-long session will be held at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre (VICC) in Nanaimo.
“Our mandate is to help diversify local, often single industry, communities,” explained Jolynn Green, Executive Director of Community Futures Central Vancouver Island. “It is incredibly exciting for our office to celebrate over 30 years helping entrepreneurs through business exploration, start up, expansion, and succession.”
While the workshop and conference is free, seating for the five sessions is limited so registration is recommended and can be completed online. Jolynn said the Biz Day event is being put on in part to help motivate those interested individuals who are toying with the idea of starting a small business. “We can help you take your business idea from ‘what if’ to ‘why not’,” she explained.
As part of the BC Small Business Accord principles, the B.C. government is raising awareness about the significant impact small business has in local communities, and is highlighting some of the programs, tools and resources available to small businesses to help them grow and succeed. Nanaimo and Ladysmith were two of the communities who they awarded the “Most Small Business Friendly Community Award”. Small business is big in BC!
