CAMPBELL RIVER – Campbell River Whale Watching & Adventure Tours are proud to announce that they have obtained the Biosphere Certified distinction, through the 4VI Vancouver Island Biosphere Commitment Program.
This program is a collaborative industry initiative that supports tourism businesses to adopt sustainable practices as an extension of Vancouver Island’s Biosphere destination certification.
The Biosphere Certified distinction recognizes the efforts made by the company to meet the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda established by the United Nations. This is awarded in recognition of the company having demonstrated compliance with actions of Biosphere Sustainable, and for the efforts and success in engaging employees in a common project and being positively valued by their customers.
“The whole of our team believes in and are committed to Regenerative Tourism. Sustainability is factored into every decision we make as we continue to strive to improve our practices and challenge our industry to join us and help make a difference,” commented co-owner Stephen Gabrysh.
“As one of less than a dozen companies on Vancouver Island to be awarded Biosphere Certification our commitment to continuing doing our part towards a guarantee of an economic, socio-cultural and environmental balance that satisfies the current needs of consumers, communities and tourists is stronger than ever.” Gabrysh added. “We aim to inspire transformation in our guests’ behaviours and thought processes around sustainability and conservation through a connection with nature and wildlife.” He concluded.
Additional Sustainability Achievements include:
- First eco-tour Company in Northern Vancouver Island to be Carbon Neutral Certified through Wilderness International.
- The company is part of the Sustainable Tourism 2030 Community and Sustainable Gold Certified with Green Step – a Global m Council (GSTC) recognized certification.
- Green Certified and Surf Rider approved with the BC Green Business Collective – a program that supports businesses looking for practical and affordable ways to reduce their environmental impact and contribute to their local communities.
