The City of Campbell River has published its 2020 Annual Report online.
“Building on the City’s third consecutive award-winning annual report, we have now posted the 2020 report online,” says city manager Deborah Sargent. “The City Scorecard includes the most recent available data and illustrates our commitment to measure and monitor our operations as well as the outcomes and effects of City services.”
Campbell River’s 2017, 2018 and 2019 annual reports were recognized with an international award from the Government Finance Officers Association for detailed fiscal analysis. The awards recognize that the City follows best practices with communications, transparency, and financial reporting.
“The City’s 2020 annual report makes a point of illustrating how decisions to reduce or postpone some service have helped us continue to provide services from a solid financial position, despite the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic” says Dennis Brodie, the City’s director of finance. “We’re pleased to report that the balance sheet remains strong, and the City continues to operate from a position of financial stability and resiliency.”
Over the last several years, the City has improved the annual report by sharing information in department highlights, and presenting it in a more visual, accessible way – including spectacular photos, graphics in the City Scorecard and the year-in-review milestone section.
The document also provides a summary of the City’s 2021-2023 strategic goals. The City is required by law to produce an annual report that includes the City’s audited financial statements and permissive tax exemptions.
This year’s deadline for the report is June 30. City Council will review the 2020 Annual Report at the June 28 meeting.
