WEST KELOWNASkyFire Energy Inc. is celebrating 23 years of providing environmentally friendly power that costs less.

The company, which has offices at #1-1110 Stevens Road in West Kelowna, Calgary, Edmonton and Regina, was founded with a deep passion for renewable energy and a vision to make a lasting impact on both the environment and the communities they serve.

It all began in 2001 when founder David Kelly installed a 600-watt solar photovoltaic (PV) system on his home – the third grid-tied solar PV system in Alberta. This marked the beginning of the company’s journey into the solar industry, driven by a commitment to utilize the sun’s power for a sustainable future.

Kelly quickly realized the potential of solar PV systems, not only for their environmental benefits but also for their ability to become cost-competitive with traditional grid power. This foresight laid the foundation for SkyFire’s growth and innovation in the solar industry.

The company’s priorities are People, Planet, and then Profit, in that order.

As a Certified B Corporation, SkyFire is committed to making business decisions that prioritize the well-being of their employees, the communities they serve, and the environment. This philosophy sets them apart from many companies that put profit first. They believe that when they put people and the planet first, everything else falls into place.

SkyFire’s success is deeply rooted in its legacy and commitment to community and environmental stewardship. They have a breadth of experience and a diverse portfolio, having completed projects ranging from residential installations to commercial, utility-scale and O&M projects. Their work spans Western Canada, including in the Okanagan, where they have deep roots in the industry.

Their dedication to giving back is evident in their actions. They donated a full solar system to the Naramata Centre, and their employees actively volunteer in their communities for a variety of causes. Additionally, the company has worked closely with Indigenous communities across Western Canada, helping them create sustainable living environments while respecting and preserving the natural world.

SkyFire is committed to quality and sustainability, and does things the right way. Their installers are employers, not contractors, ensuring that every installation meets the company’s high standards of quality and safety

SkyFire projects, such as the Summerland Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and the solar carport at UBC Okanagan, demonstrate the company’s ability to innovate and adapt to the changing needs of the energy landscape. By maintaining a focus on commercial, residential, and utility-scale projects, they have been able to sustain and grow our business over the years.

SkyFire Energy is more committed than ever to its mission.

They know that by continuing to prioritize people and the planet, they will not only sustain their business but also contribute to leaving the planet better than they found it.

SkyFire Energy is poised to continue leading the solar industry for decades to come, with a vision to bring clean, renewable energy to the world.
