KAMLOOPS – Depending on the season, business at Pleasure Pools is heating up or cooling down.
Heating up, as they carry hot tubs from Cal Spa, Sundance and H2O, and cooling down, for the company installs in-ground pools that are popular with residents in the region for cooling down in the hot summer months.
“We’ve built pools in Kamloops, Clearwater, Barriere, Ashcroft, Cache Creek, south to Merritt, and east to Sorrento/Chase,” says Len Jorgensen, who took over the business in 2010 with partner Sari Everard. “We make vinyl pools and we focus on creating a top of the line pool with automation, pumps, salt pools, everything with top of the line technology.
“We build probably a dozen in-ground pools every year. Customers who come in for in-ground pools usually want the whole package – all the automation, variable speed pumps, automatic covers, you name it. There’s quite a bit of demand for complete, in-ground units. We dig the pools and do all the decking and take it to the point where the customer can finish landscaping around it as they like.
Pleasure Pools began in 1971, and Jorgensen has been in the business for 35 years now. They have 15 employees during peak seasons. Several of their staff members have been with the company for many years.
“Sari and I are really proud of how we’ve looked after our customers and how many we’ve grown over the years,” he says. “There’s nothing better than when you’ve installed a pool, and to be there when the customer’s kids are jumping into the water with big smiles on their faces.”
Pleasure Pools has a pool department with solutions for leak detection and starting up, closing and maintaining pools.
While they carry Cal Spa, Sundance and H2O hot tubs, they service all brands of hot tubs. They also carry pool and hot tub water care treatment from Dazzle, a cutting edge company based in Ontario created by Backyard Brands. They are a leader in product innovation and offer Eco Certified products.
Water chemistry is the most important factor in maintaining pools and spas. The staff at Pleasure Pools is geared to make pool enjoyment easy, and they recommend less than 15 minutes a week is needed to looking after the pool. Pleasure Pools provides complementary water testing for all customers.
The pool business bucked the norm during the Covid pandemic, as people chose to convert their vacation dollars into pools, hot tubs and other fun household amenities. A number of pool/hot tub companies posted record numbers during that period.
“The last couple of years our business has been busy pretty much all year round,” he says. “This year, we’re back to our normal 2019 pre-pandemic numbers, and we’ll be ramping up in March getting going for this summer season. We’re going to keep working hard. Like any other successful business, we treat every year as a challenge and we’re going to keep doing that.”
The best advertising is word-of-mouth, and he says “we seem to get a lot of customers who have expressed their satisfaction to other people and their friends. That to me is the best – when previous clients and customers tell their friends about what we’ve done for them and come in.”
Keys to the company’s success have been “Maintaining a relaxed, family-oriented atmosphere, treating customer concerns, and always trying to serve the consumers and our community as best we can,” he says.
