KELOWNA – In 2026, the puck stops here.
Kelowna was named as the host for the 2026 Memorial Cup Tournament, emblematic of the Canadian Hockey League championship November 27. The City of Kelowna partnered with the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League and the Memorial Cup Host Committee in the successful bid.
Kelowna Mayor Tom Dyas says the announcement “is an exciting moment for Kelowna. This is more than just a hockey tournament – it’s an opportunity to showcase the very best of Kelowna to all of Canada. The Memorial Cup will bring economic benefits, create unforgettable experiences for members of our community, and highlight Kelowna as a hub for sports and entertainment on a national level.”
Lethbridge, Spokane, Brandon and Medicine Hat also made presentations to host the event. Kelowna had bid for the 2023 Memorial Cup, which was held in Kamloops.
Kelowna last hosted the tournament in 2004, and the Rockets, led by Captain Josh Gorges, now National Hockey League Hall of Fame member Shea Weber and MVP goaltender Kelly Guard won the crown before a sold-out crowd.
“I want to congratulate the Kelowna Rockets and recognize the leadership of Bruce and Gavin Hamilton, all the members of the Memorial Cup Host Committee, and the committee co-chairs David Rush and Steve Thomson,” said Mayor Dyas. “Our collective enthusiasm for this partnership reflects our dedication to showcasing the best of what our city has to offer, while also contributing to the success of the CHL and a truly remarkable tournament.”
The economic impact of the Memorial Cup is expected to be significant, with increased tourism driving benefits for local businesses and the broader community. Kelowna is committed to providing a memorable experience for players, fans and visitors. The City has already begun making significant investments in the Prospera Place arena to ensure compliance with WHL and CHL standards.
The event joins a growing list of marquee events in Kelowna, including the Montana’s Brier (curling) and the Canadian Country Music Awards in 2025. These events are an opportunity to showcase the region’s natural beauty, cultural vibrancy, and world-class amenities.
