KELOWNA – Imagine a home that can produce all of its own energy, and even has enough left over to power an electric car or collect a dividend cheque from their utility provider. While this may sound like the home of the future, these homes are being designed and built today by an innovative Kelowna company.
Brett Sichello Design has recently incorporated to Nido Design Inc., a rebranding that is part of the firm’s evolution from one of the largest Passive House design and consulting companies in North America to revolutionize the construction sector.
Net-Zero ready means a building that requires so little energy that a small solar panel array can produce all the energy it needs. Recently, the BC Provincial Government created a law for all new buildings to be constructed Net-Zero Ready by 2032 and yet Nido Design isn’t waiting, they’ve been already delivering these homes for years.
Nido Design is transitioning to provide a one stop shop which includes the design, construction of prefabricated building envelopes, on site construction management and finally ongoing client care well after the keys are handed over.
By capturing the inefficiencies of conventional construction, Nido’s process delivers significantly better buildings that provide up to 75% energy savings, reduced construction timelines, exceptional occupant comfort all with beautiful, modern design aesthetics.
“The building sector is a dinosaur stuck in the 70’s and is ripe for innovation,” says Brett Sichello, Nido Design’s Founder and Principal. “Our proven approach has an immediate impact on how people live today. Ultimately, we’d like to create communities where people are more socially connected and can live with a drastically lower environmental impact without having to break the bank.”
“Nido is Latin for home or nest, and our mission is to demonstrate that a home can be a positive contributor to its natural environment by having a light footprint on the land it inhabits.”
Over the past six months Nido Design Inc. has worked in Accelerate Okanagan’s Venture Acceleration Program and is continually incorporating new technology into how they design and build their projects.
As part of their company launch, Nido Design Inc. will host an information session for the public featuring a Net-Zero Passive House currently under construction in Lake Country and a 30-unit multifamily Passive House building in Merritt. The in-person session will be held at the Okanagan Centre for Innovation on September 20st from 5:30 to 7:00 pm.
