Enduringly Popular Program Once Again Features Local Rising Stars

Pamela Pearson, is the incoming President of the Kelowna Chamber

KELOWNA – The popular “Top 40” Program presented by BDO LLP through the Kelowna Chamber is once again publishing profiles of outstanding young achievers in the Kelowna area. “The program is shining a light on the first two of our cohort this week,” said Pamela Pearson, incoming President of the Chamber Board. “We can’t wait to meet these rising stars in our area; every year the program runs we hear about new business and community leaders, and all of us are the richer for that.”

Mike Gilmore, Office Managing Partner, BDO Canada LLP echoes Pearson: “BDO looks forward every year to working with the Kelowna Chamber in presenting this program. As business in Kelowna continues to expand – and now that we have been named the fastest growing centre in the country – we know that the skills and energy of the “Under 40s” are of critical importance as we continue to recover from the past two years of business uncertainty. We consider this program one of the stellar community sponsorships of our local BDO office.”

The first two Honourees include: Colin Edstrom, Partner, Pushor Mitchell LLP. A lawyer for 11 years, Colin began his career in Vancouver, before moving back to his home town of Kelowna to practice in multiple areas. Colin’s family has resided in Kelowna since the 1930s and he is proud to contribute to his home community. He sits on the Board of the Okanagan College Foundation, and outside the office, he says he does his best to provide “leadership” with his 5-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son.

The other Honouree for this first spotlight week is Sana Shahram, Assistant Professor, UBCO School of Nursing. Working to help bridge the gap between research and implementation within the health system, Sana has moved health equity action forward in dual roles with IH and the University. She also collaborated with the City of Kelowna on their award-winning healthy housing strategy and is currently supporting them (with her colleague) to develop an equity framework for City planning, in addition to her various consulting roles within our community.

The Chamber will host a wrap-up celebration recognizing all 40 Honourees in the summer. Full profiles will be published and aired by sponsors Okanagan Edge/Castanet; Capital News print and online; and Bell Media/AM1130.
