COEDC Celebrates International and Provincial Recognition

KELOWNA – In a whirlwind week, the Regional District of Central Okanagan’s Economic Development Commission (COEDC) was recognized with an international award acknowledging excellence in economic development and as a finalist for the BC Small Business Roundtable Open for Business Awards.

The COEDC has received the Excellence in Economic Development Gold Award by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) for its Make Digital Media Here: Workforce and Investment Attraction Campaign in the category of Special Events. The award was presented in Cleveland, Ohio on September 27, 2016.

IEDC’s Excellence in Economic Development Awards recognize the world’s best economic development programs and partnerships, marketing materials, and the year’s most influential leaders. These awards honor organizations and individuals for their efforts in creating positive change in urban, suburban, and rural communities.

“On behalf of the IEDC board of directors and Excellence in Economic Development Awards Advisory Committee, congratulations to COEDC,” says Barry Matherly, CEcD, FM, IEDC 2016 Board Chair, President & CEO of the Greater Richmond Partnership. “Not only did they work to provide a necessary service to their community; but also, their participation in the awards program sheds light on their stellar projects which other communities can now use a benchmark.”

The Regional District COEDC is also honoured to be one of 11 finalists for the BC Small Business Roundtable Open for Business Award, recognizing the most business friendly communities in BC at a ceremony at the BC Legislative Buildings on September 26, 2016.

The COEDC would like to congratulate District of Lake Country for their recognition as a business friendly community. Of the 11 finalists, District of Lake Country was one of 5 BC communities who were awarded the 2016 Open for Business Award. The COEDC is very proud of the District of Lake Country’s efforts to promote business friendly initiatives in the Central Okanagan.
