SURREY – Two contracts are under consideration by the Surrey City Council totalling over $19M.

The upgrades to 72 Avenue from 188 Street to 196 Street and 64 Avenue from 152 Street to 164 Street include widening roads to four lanes and integrating pedestrian and cycling infrastructure.

“As Surrey’s incredible growth continues, it is imperative that we build infrastructure that will connect our communities,” said Mayor Brenda Locke. “Widening and building new roads along 64 Avenue and 72 Avenue will not only alleviate congestion but will also create essential east-west links that our city urgently needs. These improvements are long overdue and reflect our Council’s commitment to building a transportation network that keep pace with our city’s rapid expansion. By committing to this vital infrastructure, we are paving the way for a more connected Surrey, ultimately enhancing  quality of life and safety for all.”

Both projects are set to begin May and complete in 2026.

“These improvements along 64 Avenue mark the final phase of a multi-phased program to create a continuous four lane corridor from 120 Street to 196 Street,” says Rafael Villarreal, Director of Transportation. “The improvements along 72 Avenue are also part of a larger strategy to establish a continuous route from 120 Street to 196 Street, enhancing traffic flow and connectivity within the city.”
