PITT MEADOWS – The City of Pitt Meadows has announced that the construction of the new autonomous RCMP detachment has reached substantial completion — an important milestone in the City’s transition toward an independent RCMP model. With the building phase now finished, the City is working in close collaboration with the Pitt Meadows RCMP as the detachment prepares for move-in, equipment installation, and operational readiness. The facility is expected to become operational by spring 2026.
Mayor Nicole MacDonald commented in a press release that that the detachment represents a significant investment in public safety and will support policing services that are customized to the unique needs of Pitt Meadows
Located at 12486 Harris Road, the new 19,000-square-foot facility has been purpose-built to accommodate autonomous RCMP operations. It features modern amenities, a dedicated ground-level volunteer and flexible-use space, and a lobby designed with mass timber structural elements.
Following a thorough review and public consultation process, the Government of British Columbia approved Pitt Meadows’ transition from a shared RCMP model with Maple Ridge to its own autonomous detachment in 2021.
“We appreciate the City’s strong partnership in reaching this important milestone,” said Staff Sergeant and Detachment Commander Michelle Luca. “We’re excited to begin transitioning into the new facility and preparing for independent operations that will strengthen community safety and support responsive, community-focused policing in Pitt Meadows.”
Kenaidan Contracting Ltd. was selected by the City of Pitt Meadows as the general contractor and KMBR Architects Planners Inc was the lead architect.
