WHITE ROCK

Grant Residential Group presents the 2024 White Rock Buskers & Comedy Festival, which takes place on June 14 and 15, and spans the Five Corners and Uptown areas of White Rock.

The 2024 White Rock Jazz & Blues Festival, presented by RE/MAX Colonial Pacific, will grace Five Corners and Uptown White Rock from May 24th to the 26th.

Three new businesses have opened in White Rock, which include: The Morrison Cafe, Kitchen + Bar, Dastaan Modern Indian Cafe + Bistro and Thrifty’s Grocery Store.

The White Rock Farmers Market is back for the season, which will run every Sunday until October 13th.

The Business Trade Show on the Peninsula is scheduled to take place at the Peace Arch Curling Club in White Rock from June 1-2, hosted by the South Surrey & White Rock Chamber of Commerce.

SURREY

Kevin Shackles

Kevin Shackles has started a new position as a Senior Planner at the City of Surrey as part of an interdisciplinary team working to deliver the Housing Accelerator Fund Action Plan. Surrey’s Action Plan will facilitate the delivery of housing supply in the short and long term while improving the development approval process through several initiatives.

Trevor Halford, MLA for Surrey-White Rock, and Trendzone Barbershop, are joining as the newest exhibitors at the South Surrey & White Rock Chamber of Commerce‘s Business Trade Show on the Peninsula.

Deer Lake Homes Ltd. was granted third-reading approval by the Surrey city council for a Whalley residential housing project that included a 22-story tower and a six-story low-rise building. 

From this month until September, the PARKit program in Surrey is conducted at the Surrey Civic Plaza, Hawthorne Square in Cloverdale, and the intersection of 137th Street and 73rd Avenue in Newton.

United Earth Contractors Corp. was awarded a contract by the Surrey council to upgrade 80 Avenue in Newton between 132 Street and King George Boulevard. The deal is valued at around $10.5 million.

CHILLIWACK

Sixty-six electric buses are on order from two pre-qualified suppliers, Nova Bus and New Flyer. Additionally, nine communities throughout BC have transit electrification infrastructure projects getting started. In total, BC Transit expects to install approximately 134 new electric bus charging points over the next two years in Chilliwack, Kamloops, Kelowna, the Regional District of Nanaimo, Nelson, Powell River, Sunshine Coast, Victoria and Whistler. Bus allocations to each community will be confirmed as the projects progress.

O’Connor Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram based in Chilliwack has been acquired by Bannister Automotive Group.

The City of Chilliwack is seeking designs for its upcoming street banner program. This program offers artists and designers an opportunity to submit proposals for original banner artwork that will be hung throughout the community of Chilliwack. Banners will be put on display starting in the summer of 2024, creating a vibrant visual presence.
