Tilbury Jetty Limited Partnership has been granted an Environmental Assessment Certificate for the Tilbury Marine Jetty (TMJ) Project. FortisBC Holdings Inc.

A call for bids has been released by the City of Delta to select a firm to build the civil infrastructure necessary to add a second artificial turf field to Mackie Park.

SURREY

Roy Henry Vickers has been named the BC Arts Council’s inaugural Elder-in-Residence.

The provincial government is providing a $250,000 boost to support the final flight of the Hawaii Martin Mars water bomber. This firefighting aircraft will be making its journey from Sproat Lake to the B.C. Aviation Museum in North Saanich.

INEO Tech Corp.has been awarded a new contract for INEO’s Canadian liquor store network and was a result of an RFP process put forward by a top-five Canadian advertising agency. The contract with this agency is in the tens of thousands of dollars for a one-month campaign and INEO is now being considered for an expanded, follow-on, multi-month campaign with a total value over one hundred thousand dollars.

On April 9, the South Surrey & White Rock Chamber of Commerce will host a networking event at Hazelmere Golf & Tennis Club, 18150 8 Ave, Surrey, featuring Mayor Brenda Locke.

The South Surrey & White Rock Chamber of Commerce and Penmar Community Arts Society will join forces for an exciting evening of networking, live music, delicious food, and refreshing beverages at the Semiahmoo Fish and Game Club on May 1st. TransLink will close Surrey’s King George SkyTrain Station for six weeks for “essential maintenance” from April 27 to mid-June.

Parkland Corp. announced that its refinery in Burnaby, B.C., has resumed normal operations as of March 29.

The Surrey Board of Trade will host advisory sessions with Procurement Assistance Canada to help businesses become federal suppliers. A Procurement Assistance Pacific representative will hold free one-on-one sessions at the Surrey Board of Trade on April 3, May 14, July 15, September 11, and November 4.

Rissling Services Ltd. has been granted a contract worth approximately $5.4 million to carry out the installation of 1,000 meters of insulated steel pipe, service connections, a leak detection system, and communication conduit. The purpose of this work is to facilitate “future development and potential connections” to the District Energy System in Surrey.

The $35 million two-building complex located at 5375 204th St. and 5375 203rd St. was purchased from Canadian Apartment Property REIT (CAPREIT) by the provincial government and New Vista Society. With a provincial investment of $23.8 million via the Rental Protection Fund, the 108-unit site will have rents kept at least 35% below market rates.

The Jennie Gaglardi Place, a Langley affordable housing complex with 98 units, is opened by Christian Life Assembly Church at 21201 56th Ave.

Tim Ayres has been appointed as the new chair of the BC Real Estate Association, following his four-year tenure on the board of directors.

Jennifer Su has recently started her new role as Radiation Therapist at BC Cancer – Abbotsford.

The First Nation is actively working to expand their holdings in the Fraser Valley in order to support Abbotsford’s ambitious plans to improve its tourist infrastructure and experiences.

MAPLE RIDGE 

A $100,000 donation was made to the Ridge Meadows Hospital Foundation by the Maple Ridge Firefighters Charitable Society.

The Annual General Meeting of the Ridge Meadows Recycling Society will be held at The Well in Chances Maple Ridge on April 4, where a new board will be elected.

The Maple Ridge pool will be closed on April 6 and 7 for the RMSC Titans Spring Invitational.

 The City of Maple Ridge is hosting a free workshop on April 8 in the Fraser Room of the Maple Ridge Public Library, 130-22470 Dewdney Trunk Road, to launch the city’s involvement in the province-wide BC Buy Local campaign.

The provincial government has announced that the Albion YMCA Child Care is offering twenty-four new child care spaces in Maple Ridge for ten dollars per day.

The free yearly health and wellness event of the Maple Ridge Lions Club will take place on April 13 at the Ridge Meadows Seniors Activity Centre, located at 12150 224th St.

 

MISSION 

Picturesque Clothing Co, owned by Carol Keats, located in Mission, 1st Ave, announced its upcoming 6th anniversary celebration on April 5th.

The province recently acquired 36 hectares (89 acres) of pristine, undeveloped territory on Lightning Rock, believed to hold great cultural significance for the Stó:lo people. The province plan to retain ownership of the property until they can come to an agreement with Semá:th and complete the land transfer procedure.

Big Feet has recently opened its franchise location in Mission.
