Bill Brassington has been named British Columbia’s Territory Manager for the Cover All Program team.

Mayor George Harvie recently announced his resignation from his position as Delta Police Board chair.

The greenhouse run by Pure Sunfarm, a subsidiary of Village Farms International Inc., has shifted to renewable natural gas (RNG) using a new production facility that uses methane gas from the Vancouver Landfill.

The City of Delta has issued Invitation to Tender No. 24-085 for Trenchless & Cut-and-Cover rehabilitation and repair of sanitary and storm sewers in various locations across the City of Delta.

ABBOTSFORD 

Samantha Palmer, the business engagement lead for the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce, came in second place at the University of the Fraser Valley Sales Management Research Exhibition and Mixer.

A total of $2.4 billion, with $2 billion going into a fund to provide computing resources and technical infrastructure, will be set aside in the next budget by the Liberal government to improve AI capabilities.

With a budget of $3.6 billion, B.C. Hydro has issued its first request for private power producers in 15 years, with the goal of supplying 270,000 homes with electricity by 2031. All bids for extra energy must be in accordance with Clean B.C.’s definition of renewable power and incorporate at least 25 per cent First Nations equity in order to be included in the biannual power call.

In order to better assist local businesses in their growth and success in Abbotsford, the City of Abbotsford is launching a new survey to gain insights into the current needs and challenges of these businesses. An updated Business Retention and Expansion Strategy will be informed by the feedback received throughout this process, which will build upon earlier input received through focused consultations with key business groups.

The 30th anniversary of Skills Canada BC will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at Tradex in Abbotsford, as students prepare to compete in the provincial trades and technology competitions.  A diverse range of trades and technology competitions, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, baking, welding, graphic design, 3D animation, and more, will now be held, bringing together over 600 students from secondary and post-secondary institutions across the province who won medals at Regionals.

Volatus Aerospace, in collaboration with the British Columbia Institute of Technology and Dr. Eric Saczuk, will administer the Science Experiential Aerial Research (#SEAR) Program to fifty students from the Abbotsford School District, 4-H BC Provincial Council, and Scouts Canada this summer, with the assistance of the Abbotsford Community Foundation Agricultural Enhancement Grant.

 

CHILLIWACK

Chilliwack will receive 73 temporary housing units through the Homeless Encampment Action Response Temporary Housing (HEARTH) program of the province.

Nine speakers and more than 50 organizations participated in the Chilliwack Rotary Climate Fair, which was held on April 13 and 14 at the Chilliwack Landing Sports Centre.

The province of BC has awarded more than $600,000 in grants to the Berry Environmental Resilience Research and Innovation (BERRI) Lab at the University of Fraser Valley‘s Chilliwack campus. The lab is set to open this summer.

Ruth & Naomi’s Mission – Interchange Location, 45466 Yale Rd, is set to be the site of a new 43-unit modular housing facility with construction expected to begin this summer.

 

PITT MEADOWS 

Pitt Meadows Plumbing has been honoured with the 2024 BCCA Construction Leadership Award.

MAPLE RIDGE 

In partnership with the Province of B.C., The City of Maple Ridge announced $3.5 million in funding from the Province’s Growing Communities Fund for the completion of the expansion of Abernethy from 224 to 230 Street.

NNN Productions announced that the filming of the MAJOR feature film ‘Playdate,’ a comedy/action film starring Kevin James and Alan Ritchson, transpired smoothly at the intersection of Dunn Avenue and Golden Ears Way on April 7th.

Volunteers are needed for “Team Maple Ridge,” which will compete in the 2024 BC Summer Games in Maple Ridge.

The Ridge Meadows Chamber of Commerce is hosting its second annual, Celebrating Women in Business on June 13th at the Albion Community Centre.

 

MISSION

The grand opening of the brand new showhome at Harrison Highlands is scheduled for April 20th.

Construction has begun on Mission’s new high school following the province’s announcement on Friday (April 5) that it will fund the project with $175 million.
