Rory Morgan of KSW Lawyers, is Chair of the Surrey Board of Trade
The Surrey Board of Trade is overseen by a volunteer Board of Directors representing various disciplines and business sectors. The Board exists to provide high-level guidance and direction to the organization. It’s a demanding role, but extremely rewarding and we appreciate the opportunity to support all of you – our Owners.
As Chair of the Board, I made a commitment in the first edition of the Chair’s Update to share regular updates about Board discussions and decisions. Since the first edition on July 16, your Board of Directors have:
- Implemented an Interim Leadership Plan; and,
- Struck a CEO search committee.
During this time of transition as we merge with the South Surrey & White Rock Chamber of Commerce and bid farewell to Anita Huberman at the end of August, there will be multiple demands on the Surrey Board of Trade staff.
The Board would like to acknowledge our amazing team for their dedication and effort in the past and going forward – we couldn’t do this without you! A special thanks to Indra Bhan, COO, who has agreed to step in as Interim CEO during this period. Many of you know Indra and can attest to her tenacity, knowledge and the warmth with which she welcomes everyone. Indra will step into the Interim CEO role on August 31st. The Board recognizes that performing both the CEO and COO roles will be extremely demanding and has asked Jasroop Gosal, Policy and Research Manager, to support the team as Interim Spokesperson during this time. We are grateful to Jasroop for taking on this additional responsibility. There will be busy days ahead and we thank the membership for their support and patience as we move forward.
The permanent CEO role is a top priority for the Board. A search committee has been formed and consists of equal members from both the Surrey Board of Trade and the South Surrey & White Rock Chamber of Commerce. The CEO search committee had their first meeting on July 31st and looks forward to a thorough and collaborative process in selecting the future CEO of the Surrey & White Rock Board of Trade.
