Jubail Sanchez

Jubail Sanchez has been appointed the new executive director for the Tsawwassen Business Improvement Association.

Richard Wischnewski, executive director of the Delta Chamber, Warren Dean Flandez, president of the Tsawwassen Business Improvement Association, Jason Roberts, president of the Ladner Business Association, and Ian Tait, founder and president of The Business Association Inspired in North Delta, all came together for the first time as leaders of Delta’s four main business organizations to establish a common goal: to work together and elevate the local business community.

Jeff Vogan, a sports photographer based in Toronto, will be delivering a special Zoom presentation on “From Hobbyist to Full-Time Sports Photographer” on Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m. The Delta Photo Club has extended an invitation to members and guests.

Juried artworks will be on display at Gallery 1710 in Tsawwassen from September 4th to the 28th as part of the South Delta Artists Guild‘s 50th anniversary celebration.

The Walker House project, a 32-story mixed-use structure with 336 market stratum units, 59 rental units, and commercial space, is another high-rise plan that has yet to be considered by the council. It is located at 9321 Scott Road and 11958 93A Avenue.

The Delta Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the City of Delta, presents the 2025 State of the City: Economic Business Breakfast on September 16 at Cascades Casino from 7:30-9:30 am.

 

WHITE ROCK 

Caffe Artigiano has just opened their brand new location in the Uptown Neighbourhood at 1431 Johnston Rd, White Rock.

Construction has begun on the BC Hydro’s Whalley Substation Feeder Addition Project in Surrey. Four new feeders will be added to the existing substation, enhancing capacity and boosting reliability in the Surrey Centre area.

LANGLEY

HBL Properties have acquired a unit at Harlo, a modern, low-rise development located in the vibrant Willoughby-Clayton corridor of Langley.

BC Hydro is moving forward with several significant projects in Surrey and Langley as part of its $36 billion capital plan aimed at fostering long-term growth, which include:

  • New Surrey Centre Substation set to provide power for 20,000 to 35,000 homes by 2032.
  • Scott Road Substation Redevelopment aims to provide support for 20,000 to 35,000 homes by 2032.
  • Langley is set to welcome a new substation that will provide power to between 20,000 and 35,000 homes, expected to be operational by 2032.
  • New Willoughby Substation set to provide power for 20,000 to 35,000 homes by 2032.
  • Improvements to the distribution system include investments in both underground and overhead infrastructure to address the increasing demand in Willoughby-Clayton, Brookswood, and Gloucester.

The BC Agriculture and Food Export Program is now open for applications until September 5, offering funding to assist food and beverage producers and associations in their efforts to enter international markets.

Langley Township has approved Bylaw No. 6147, which modifies Zoning Bylaw No. 2500 to permit suites in multi-family residences, including secondary suites in ground-oriented homes and lock-off units in apartment complexes.

 

ABBOTSFORD

BC Hydro has launched two new electric vehicle charging hubs in Abbotsford and Chilliwack, adding a total of 20 charging ports to promote electric vehicle adoption in the Fraser Valley.

Five new Welch Allyn vital signs machines, a crucial tool in post-pregnancy care for mothers and their recently born infants, were purchased with a $25,000 donation from the Canucks for Kids Fund to the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation.

Auguston Traditional and Margaret Stenerse primary schools are each getting 180 seats for students. The Province has approved up to $9.68 million and the Abbotsford School District is contributing $750,000

The Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce is welcoming nominations for the 29th annual Business Excellence Awards.

The Fraser Valley Regional District has been ranked as the 4th most efficient in BC.

 

CHILLIWACK

Anderson Guerrero, the finance and operations manager for the Forager Foundation, has resigned from the position of manager at the Yale Historic Site, effective September 4.

A celebration will be held on September 21 to mark the 15th anniversary of the Chilliwack Cultural Centre.

The Family and Friend Caregiver Support Program, which is administered by Compassionate Neighbourhood Health Partners Society (commonly referred to as Compassionate Neighbours), has been awarded a United Way British Columbia grant. As a result, the program will be able to employ a full-time coordinator and offer one-on-one support.

The ‘Discussing Residential Schools: Local Perspectives’ event, which is being hosted by the Stó:lō Research and Resource Management Centre in Chilliwack on Sept. 18, will showcase a presentation by Nicola Campbell and Carrielyn Victor regarding their forthcoming book. Residential school investigations will be the primary focus of the event.

Council authorized the final design for a “tea house” in Centennial Park, which was funded by a grant from the Japanese Canadian Legacies Society BC Heritage Sites program. The project received $400,000 in funding.

This year, the City of Mission will introduce a late French Immersion program at Heritage Park Middle School to enhance its French classes.
