DELTA

Jennyfer Cassar has been named the new Events Coordinator and Membership Engagement Manager at the Delta Chamber of Commerce.

Acting Staff Sergeant Gary Koonar of the Delta Police Department is one of the honoured young leaders to receive the 2024 IACP Top 40 Under 40 Award.

Kim Baird, the former Chief of Tsawwassen First Nation, has been honoured with the prestigious King Charles III Coronation Medal for her remarkable efforts in advocating for Indigenous peoples and promoting reconciliation.

Rod Bird, the president of Bird Hydraulics in Vancouver, will shortly reopen the Ladner Theatre. Rod and Enns Loews has leased the theatre for a period of two years, with an additional two-year option.

Freshwave Ministries, a non-profit organization based in South Delta, is organizing an 18-hole golf tournament and dinner on September 19th. The event will take place at Mylora Golf Club in Richmond, located at 9911 Sidaway.

 

WHITE ROCK 

Wes Spencer

Wes Spencer is celebrating 12 years with RE/MAX Colonial Pacific Realty.

The 2024 White Rock Craft Beer Festival will take place at Memorial Park in White Rock on September 21, presented by Leah Chandler Real Estate + Rob Blair Real Estate.

JuXtaposed is now on display at Landmark Pop-Uptown Gallery. The exhibition, which includes the works of Paul Hyde, Kat McPhee, David Paterson, Catherine St. Germain, and Jim Davidson, will be on display until September 25.

 

SURREY

The Fraser Valley Real Estate Board is hosting an All-Candidates Forum for the Surrey-White Rock Riding in anticipation of the upcoming BC Provincial Election. The South Surrey & White Rock Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the White Rock BIA, will be hosting an event on Sept. 20 at the White Rock Community Centre.

A new long-term care home will be constructed at 6471 175A St. in Surrey, named Guru Nanak Diversity Village. This project is a collaboration between the Ministry of Health, Fraser Health, BC Housing, and the Progressive Intercultural Community Services Society (PICS).

Andrew George, the Director of Truth and Reconciliation and a highly respected Red Seal Chef, has recently been honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the BC Restaurant & Foodservices Association (BCRFA) as he joins the prestigious 2024 Restaurant Hall of Fame.

Kinton Ramen, located at #103 – 13639 George Junction in Surrey, is celebrating its one-year anniversary.

Applications are now being accepted for vendors to join the Semiahmoo Arts Society’s Winter Craft Market and Open House at the Turnbull Gallery. The event will be held on December 6th at the South Surrey Recreation and Arts Centre.

The province has implemented a new strategy to expedite housing construction by permitting standardized designs. The designs are in full compliance with the latest BC Building Code and can easily be tailored to fit various lot sizes and specific site conditions. Designs are available for free download.

The British Columbia Economic Development Association (BCEDA) announces the names of the first five professionals to become BCEDA Certified Economic Development Professionals (CEDP.BC). First-ever CEDP.BC certified individuals are: Michael McGee, owner of ACED Management Inc.; Rose Klukas, Director of Economic Development and Indigenous Relations, City of Campbell River; Lana Fitt, Executive Director of Salmon Arm Economic Development Society; Amy Reid, Manager of Economic Development and Tourism, City of Quesnel; and Colleen Bond, Partner, EDCD Consulting. 

Registration is now open for the Global Wood Summit conference which will be held from Oct 29-30, 2024 in Vancouver.

 

LANLGEY 

Multi-Build Solutions Group Inc. recently completed an upgrade to the Bocce Courts in Langley. The project included the installation of a new structural steel roof, gutters, and coordination with lighting installers.

Tesla has recently introduced its latest V4 Superchargers in Canada, with the first one being installed in Langley. These chargers are designed to provide faster charging for both Tesla and non-Tesla electric vehicles that are compatible with CCS.

The Langley Care Society is celebrating 50 years of care with a gala fundraiser at the Langley Lodge on September 27th.

ABBOTSFORD 

Garv Singh Saini has been appointed as the Lab Monitor for CIS 100: Introduction to Computers and Digital Technologies at the University of the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford. 

Better World Software Inc., a pioneering nonprofit solutions provider, has announced the successful onboarding of six new clients in Canada and its inaugural U.S. client in New York during the first half of 2024. This is a significant milestone for the corporation as it broadens its presence throughout North America.

HME Home Health Ltd. announced their upcoming expansion to Abbotsford, set to open in the Summer of 2025.

Liebherr-Canada Ltd. will be launching a new branch in Abbotsford, located near Highway 1, on September 25th.

 

CHILLIWACK 

Three elementary schools in the Chilliwack School District have recently added a total of 102 child-care spaces for before- and after-school care. The spaces were created by utilising existing space at each school, including Greendale, Sardis, and Unsworth elementary schools.

Candidates from the Conservative Party of B.C. in the Chilliwack area are hosting an open house at their campaign office on Sept. 7 at #103-7670 Vedder Road.

 

PITT MEADOWS 

The Pitt Meadows Farmers Market has extended its season until the end of September, with new hours and special events. The market will now operate from 2 to 6 p.m. to better accommodate parents and school children.

Construction sites in British Columbia with 25 or more employees are required to provide flush restrooms and hand-washing facilities as of October 1, 2024.

The Pitt Meadows Farmers Market is reopening and will remain operational until September 24.

The Gymnasium at the Pitt Meadows Family Recreation Centre (PMFRC) will be temporarily closed until September 22 for floor refinishing.

 

MAPLE RIDGE

The 224th Street beer garden will host the unveiling of the new Our Neck of the Woods IPA, a collaboration between three Maple Ridge breweries: Foamers Folly, Switchback, and The Patch.

On September 14, Maple Ridge will host the annual Our Neck of the Woods festival in celebration of the town’s 150th anniversary.

 

MISSION 

Mary Browns Chicken is now open at 32520 Lougheed Hwy in Mission.

Seven Generations Environmental Services in Mission received the prestigious Business Partnership of the Year award at the 2024 Indigenous Business Awards.

Mission’s hospital ambulatory day care unit has recently received a generous donation from Gulf & Fraser, allowing them to acquire two new Welch Allyn Vital Signs Monitors. This contribution was made possible through the support of the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation.

A historic coordination agreement has been signed by the governments of Canada and British Columbia with the Sts’ailes nation, acknowledging the First Nation’s jurisdiction over their own child and family services laws.
