Andrew Jackson

Andrew Jackson has been appointed board chair for the Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation.

Jason McCormick has announced his candidacy for the NDP in Delta South.

KinVillage is launching a $3 million fundraising campaign aimed at expanding the Day Program for Older Adults. This initiative will enhance the facility with new space, a hydrotherapy specialized motion bathing tub and a lift, making it accessible for both program participants and community members.

Ladner Elementary School (LES) will undergo a significant expansion after the province government’s recent $9 million grant.

Chocxo Chocolatier, a BC Food & Beverage member, in Delta,  is up for two Rise Awards this year: Best in Brand and Product of the Year for their Dark Chocolate Lemon Crème Cups.

 

WHITE ROCK

The South Surrey and White Rock Chamber of Commerce is hosting a networking event on October 17 at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 008 at 2290 152 St, Surrey.

Babas Restro held its Grand Opening in White Rock, at 1436 Johnston Road.

A secure and monitored location is provided for drug consumption at White Rock’s overdose prevention facility, located on the premises of Peace Arch Hospital.

 

SURREY

Ronald McDonald House BC & Yukon has launched a province-wide 50/50 raffle campaign to support families with seriously ill children, with a fundraising target set at $250,000. The winner will collect half of this amount, while the rest will go directly to supporting the Family Rooms at Surrey Memorial Hospital, which provide a vital space for families to stay close to their children receiving urgent medical care.

 Securiguard Services Limited announced that it has been named an Excellence Awardee for The Queen’s University IRC Award for Best Learning & Development Strategy at the Canadian HR Awards 2024. This recognition highlights Securiguard’s ongoing commitment to fostering professional development and career growth for its employees.

The FIM World Supercross Championship (WSX) is making its long-awaited return to Vancouver after a nearly 20-year absence at BC Place. The WSX Canadian GP will take place on October 26, 2024.

At the annual Canadian Chamber of Commerce Convention to be held in Halifax from October 17-19, the Surrey Board of Trade will be seeking support for five federal government policies from Canadian Chamber of Commerce members – chambers of commerce and boards of trade, representing 200,000 Canadian businesses. The Surrey Board of Trade will release their policy wins after the policy debates. There are 47 federal policies being debated at the Convention this year, similar in format to UBCM and FCM.

The Fraser Valley real estate market is trending towards a buyer’s market if this sales decline persists, with active inventories have reached a decade-high, while sales are down 30 percent compared to the 10-year average. The Fraser Valley Real Estate Board reported 982 sales in September, marking an eight percent decrease from August and over a 10 percent drop from September 2023.

Surrey council is set to vote on a proposed five-tower development in the city centre, which is owned by Bristol Estates 13301 Holdings Ltd. The site is currently home to three-storey rental apartment buildings located along 104 Avenue, northwest of City Hall.

Ta’talu Elementary, a new school located in the Grandview Heights neighbourhood of Surrey, officially opened its doors on October 1, 2024.

Jason Lum is resigning from his position as chair of the Fraser Valley Regional District after serving for 8 years.

Character Abbotsford has announced its board for 2024/2025, featuring a mix of returning members and newcomers. Members returning to the team are Sir James Barlow, Vijay Manuel, Bev Olfert, Shirley Wilson, and vice-chair Jory Smallenberg. Andrea Critchley, Darcy Halber, and Colin Watson have joined the board as new members.

Vancouver Rise, a professional women’s soccer team, has introduced Christine Sinclair as its newest owner.

This year’s Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure, which took place in Abbotsford on October 6, raised around $150,000 for Canadians who are affected by breast cancer.

The Chawathil First Nation (CFN) and BC Housing are bringing 31 townhouses and an Elder Lodge to their community.

On Sept. 24, Tourism Abbotsford came before City Council to provide their Year to Date services update for 2024. The update is a part of the agreement the City renewed with Tourism Abbotsford in January for its tourism marketing, destination development and event management services. The update included an overview of marketing campaigns, events and programs from this past year, as well as some statistics. They found that from April to August, Visitor Centre ambassadors interacted with 5,533 tourists, an increase over previous years; on Canada Day, up to 65,000 people, mostly from Abbotsford, attended throughout the day from the parade to the fireworks display; and 20,000 people, including 8,200 locals, have accessed the Go! Abbotsford online events calendar.

The City of Maple Ridge is exploring a new policy regarding the allocation of over $1.5 million in annual gaming revenue for itself and future councils.

The Haney Place Mall is set to host the largest job fair of the year, the Pathways to Success event, in Maple Ridge on October 10. This event is organized in collaboration with the WorkBC centre and the Ridge Meadows Chamber of Commerce.
