DELTA 

Seaspan Shipyards, the largest shipbuilder in B.C., is urging the provincial government to take advantage of the chance to construct new vessels for BC Ferries locally, aiming to generate high-value jobs and economic advantages for the people of British Columbia.

Writers of all skill levels are welcome at the Delta Literary Arts Society‘s gatherings, which are hosted by Angela Rebrec (on Ladner dates) and Anna Eastland (on North Delta dates). The events include prompts, optional sharing, and plenty of socializing time. George Mackie Library (Oct. 2) and Douglas J. Husband Discovery Centre (Oct. 6), both hosted by the City of Delta and the Fraser Valley Regional Library, are the venues for the upcoming events.

Finalists for the 2024 Surrey Business Excellence Awards have been revealed ahead of the event on Nov. 7. The gala will take place at the Sheraton Vancouver Guildford Hotel, featuring seven categories in an Academy Awards-style celebration. Tickets are available for $150 each, while non-members of SBOT can purchase them for $175.

Raga Indian Cuisine restaurant will celebrate its grand opening in Guildford on October 3. The operators aim to raise $50,000 to support the children’s wing of Surrey Memorial Hospital through the Surrey Hospitals Foundation.

The Surrey Food Bank has received a donation of $30,000 from Coast Capital, a credit union located in Surrey.

 

LANGLEY 

The Ministry of Education and Child Care is investing $133.5 million to build 89 new classrooms in 10 school districts, including West Kelowna, Langley, Surrey, Delta, Richmond, Burnaby, Maple Ridge, Fort St. John, Nanaimo, and Terrace.

The third annual fundraiser for HugABull Advocacy & Rescue Society took place on Sept. 14, attracting numerous visitors who generously contributed a total of $7,000, surpassing the organizers’ goals.

The BC courts have ordered the sale of one of the two properties in the 3300 block of 200 Street in Brookswood that were formerly owned by developer Quarry Rock Developments.

The Langley-Abbotsford riding in the 2024 provincial election will be filled by Melissa Snazell, a candidate for the BC Green Party.

On Tuesday, Sept. 24, Langley Meals on Wheels (LMOW) took over ownership of the Aldergrove Community Station House from the Township of Langley.

Leader of the B.C. NDP David Eby reveals plans to double the number of training seats to fifty thousand on day six of the 2024 campaign at the Teamsters 213 and LiUNA 1611 Training Centre in Chilliwack.

Dosa Club is set to establish its newest site in Chilliwack at 45850 Yale Road, Unit 500B, occupying the space formerly occupied by Paliotti’s.

The second Chilliwack Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, situated in Building B of the Chilliwack SmartCentres redevelopment on Luckakuck Way, has been opened to the public.

La Senza‘s closure from Cottonwood Mall will be filled by a new store, La Vie en Rose, which will open in October 2024 at the Chilliwack SmartCentre.

Kelly O’Bryan’s is set to open its doors on Luckakuck Way in Chilliwack.

The Chilliwack City Council has given its final approval to a townhouse development plan of Keyplan Development Management for 6538 and 6548 Fern Street.

Sephora Chilliwack is making progress towards its opening, with the sign now installed at Cottonwood Centre.

 

PITT MEADOWS 

Pitt Meadows Regional Airport has officially opened to international travellers following the recent approval of its new Airport of Entry (AOE) status.

The government’s Growing Communities Fund provided the City of Pitt Meadows with approximately $5.4 million to assist with the renovations at Pitt Meadows Athletic Park.

Jerry Kok, the president of the Ridge Meadows Chamber of Commerce, is inviting the public to an open house at Unlimited Driving Academy in Pitt Meadows on Oct. 9. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the benefits of being part of the chamber.

 

MAPLE RIDGE

The Patch Brewery has recently opened its doors in Maple Ridge, situated at the historic Laity family farm on Laity Street, adding to the local craft beer scene this summer. They cultivate their barley and hops, producing Laity Lager, Fat Tractor Juicy IPA, and Sour Patch Blackberry Lemon Sour, among other selections.

Maple Ridge’s Switchback Brewing is featured on the Ale Trail website for the competition, the BC Craft Brewers Conference which will be held on Oct. 17 and 18 at the Anvil Centre in New Westminster.

The Maple Ridge Leisure Centre has reopened to the public after a three-week closure for annual maintenance and deep cleaning.

The 2024 grant cycle of the Maple Ridge Community Foundation will begin on Monday, September 30 and accept submissions for Maple Ridge charities until November 1st.

The Haney House and Maple Ridge Museum are getting ready for the Apple Harvest Festival, which will take place on October 6.

The Mission Regional Chamber of Commerce is teaming up with the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board and the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce to organize an all-candidates event ahead of the 2024 Provincial Election. The event is scheduled for October 3rd at the Clarke Theatre, located at 33700 Prentis Ave, Mission.
