Guy Leeson

Guy Leeson has been appointed as the new Deputy Chief of the Delta Police Department.

South Delta Arts Guild launches its most recent exhibition, “West Coast,” at Gallery 1710 in Tsawwassen (1710, 56th Street). The exhibition will be on display from February 28 to March 30.

A court-ordered sale of a vacant site in Ladner Village for $3,980,000 is available to townhouse developers with zoning amendment permissions.

The rezoning application for a Westham Island farm, which involves the construction of a second additional farmhouse in the 4300-block of Tamboline Road, was recently finalized by the Delta council.

The Rick Hansen Foundation (RHF) is pleased to announce that applications are now open for youth with disabilities to apply for post-secondary financial assistance for the 2025/2026 academic year via the Rick and Amanda Hansen Scholarship for Youth with Disabilities, generously funded by the April 1 Foundation. For the 2025/2026 academic year, funding of up to $10,000 per year (up to a maximum of $40,000) is available to youth with disabilities who are under the age of 30 years as of the application deadline, looking to complete a 1- to 5-years post-secondary program at a publicly funded institution in Canada. Applications will be accepted until May 14, 2025, and recipients will be announced in the Fall.

Township of Langley Council approved additional major investments in the Fire Department to continue enhancing public safety in the community. Before hitting the road, two new trucks were welcomed through a push-in ceremony. The two trucks have been assigned to Fire Hall 6 in Murrayville and the remaining three placed across the Township at Hall 8 in Walnut Grove, Hall 3 in Aldergrove, and Hall 5 in Brookswood.

ABBOTSFORD

Calibre has announced the promotion of Ian Baird to Vice President of Construction, while Zack Staples has taken on the roles of Vice President of Development and CFO.

Farmhouse Brewing is planning to open a new site in Abbotsford, adding to their existing Chilliwack.

Time Toys, a new toy store, has just opened in the Highstreet Shopping Centre in Abbotsford on March 1.

Abbotsford Council is nearing final approval for two six-storey apartment buildings, which will feature a total of 132 units, located at the intersection of McDougal and Montrose avenues.

Abbotsford was ranked as Canada’s fourth-cheapest city to rent in.

A security company called Group Security Services Ltd. has sued a Thind Properties company, seeking over $145,000 for security work done at the Highline property in Burnaby’s Metrotown, along with interest and outstanding service fees.

 

CHIILIWACK

Laurie Throness, a former MLA, has secured a position as a trustee for the Chilliwack School Board after winning a byelection on March 1.

Chilliwack Search and Rescue received a $25,000 check from the Sardis Kiwanis Club to assist with the construction of a new building.

The CIBC branch in Hope is set to close permanently on August 21, 2025. Customers will have their accounts moved to the Chilliwack branch located at 9245 Young Road.

The Cultus Lake Sailing Club will host its Spring Fundraiser on March 9 at the Lakeside Beach Club, located at 4131 Columbia Valley Rd.

DuffleBag Theatre will present The Three Musketeers at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on March 16.

The village has awarded a $156,000 contract to Kurts Construction for renovations at 160 Lillooet Ave., which will become the future home of a much-needed primary care facility.

 

PITT MEADOWS

Staff Sgt. Michelle Luca has been appointed as the first detachment commander for the Pitt Meadows RCMP.

Assistant Chief Dave Saddler was honoured with the King Charles III Coronation Medal for his exceptional service and commitment to the community.

Pitt Meadows council urges the province to boost investment in agriculture, emphasizing the ongoing lack of support for farmers.

The Canadian Mortgage and Home Corporation‘s (CMHC) Housing Accelerator Fund has granted the City of Maple Ridge $16.6 million to expedite home development and address the expanding requirements of the community.

A new industrial park is in the planning stages by the City of Maple Ridge near the northern end of 256th Street.

A new shop local initiative called Choose Maple Ridge has the support of the Downtown Maple Ridge Business Improvement Association, the Ridge Meadows Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Maple Ridge.

 

MISSION 

The Sunflower Lodge has officially opened at 7494 Mary St., Mission.

Earth Options Pet Food by Pets First is celebrating its 31st anniversary.

The third phase of the 14th Avenue multi-use pathway is now underway in the City of Mission.

The multi-family redevelopment site located at 7431 Hurd St., Mission, was sold by Jag Cheema of Royal LePage Wolstencroft Realty on February 14th for $725,000.
