DELTA
Established in 2021, CultivATE is a food truck that has expanded to several hundred locations throughout the Lower Mainland. Since 2022, it exclusively employs women who fled the chaos in Ukraine and sought safety in the community. A program run by the registered charity ElevATE, CultivATE recently made a visit to Delta. The main goals of ElevATE are to support job opportunities, training, and food security for people from underrepresented and underprivileged backgrounds.
The first Supper at Sunset on Aug. 22, hosted by John Gross, the founder and CEO of Peak Products, raised over $75,000 for the new Beedie Long-Term Care Centre in Delta. The event was put on by the Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation (DHCH Foundation) as part of their ‘Coming Home’ capital campaign.
After receiving an overwhelming number of applications for its School’s Out Summer program—which provides free or low-cost social, educational, and recreational activities throughout July and August—United Way British Columbia (UWBC) is asking the public to donate to the program in order to increase its capacity for future years.

The former Sundowner Pub in North Delta is being replaced by a five-story commercial development located at 11970 64th Ave. The development was approved by the city council during its third reading last month.
WHITE ROCK
On Sunday, August 25, Peace Arch Hospital held a two-hour celebration in the east parking lot to honour the hospital’s 70 years of service. The event, which included live music from a band, served as a fundraiser for the Peace Arch Hospital Foundation‘s $10 million campaign to purchase new medical imaging equipment.
The City of Surrey and the City of White Rock announced their collaboration in the White Rock & South Surrey Culture Crawl. On October 5th and 6th, 2024, this event will commemorate the Peninsula’s vibrant arts, culture, and heritage. Activities are free and open to the public, with the exception of certain ticketed performances.
The City of White Rock proudly supports local artists through the Pop-Uptown Artist Program which lets artists display their work in the Landmark Pop-Uptown Gallery at 15140 North Bluff Road. Applications for 2025 are open until September 3rd.

ph7 Technologies, a startup firm, has been making headlines for its solvent-based solvometallurgy technique for recovering platinum-group metals from industrial and vehicle waste. The company was one of 13 Canadian companies on the Cleantech 100 list this year and raised $22 million in Series A financing last year. Recently, pH7 received $1 million from the B.C. Centre for Innovation and Clean Energy (CICE) to create an electrolyzer for copper extraction from mine waste.

The Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce expressed its gratitude to the local and regional authorities for the approval of the $2.64 billion Fraser Valley Highway 1 Corridor Improvement Program. The funding for this year will upgrade Highway 1 in Abbotsford between Mt. Lehman Road and Highway 11, which includes widening the roadway to accommodate HOV and electric vehicle lanes in both directions, building a new roadway 11 intersection, and replacing the Peardonville Road crossing. The project will widen the highway from Sumas Prairie in Abbotsford to Chilliwack.

Maple Ridge’s permanent home at 11685 Fraser St. will replace the outdated temporary modular housing at 22548 Royal Cres., which will close at the end of its lifespan. New Vista Society and the Building BC: Community Housing Fund will convert 22548 Royal Cres into 98 permanent, affordable senior housing apartments.
Normal service on the West Coast Express, which had been suspended due to the CPKC labor dispute lockout that went into force on August 22, resumed on August 26.
