Creative Door Services marks 55 years of service this year.

The new training centre for Ladner Minor Ball at Cromie Park officially opened on Saturday, April 5.

Delta Youth Theatre (DYT) has received two prestigious awards at the Canadian Young Theatre Awards for its Spring 2024 production of Finding Nemo Jr., recognized for Outstanding Program Production and Outstanding Creative Team.

The North Delta Rotary Club launched the Magic Pencil Program, a new community initiative in collaboration with the Delta School District, with the help of a Community Prosperity Grant from the Delta Community Foundation. The program’s goal is to assist Delta families who find it difficult to cover their children’s back-to-school costs.

According to Invest Surrey data based on proposed projects, 21 high-rises are under construction and another 70 have been approved. Currently, Surrey, Canada’s 11th largest city, has 11 high-rise towers, the tallest of which is 3 Civic Plaza, rising to 157.3m tall.

The BC Indigenous Clean Energy Initiative (BCICEI) is moving into a new phase, backed by a $140M investment from the Province of BC. The New Relationship Trust (NRT) will continue to lead efforts to support and provide capacity-building funds to First Nations, tribal councils, and organizations primarily owned by First Nations focused on clean energy project development in B.C.

VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation and Burn Fund have announced the launch of the 2025 Hometown Heroes Lottery, aimed at raising crucial funds for specialized adult health services at VGH, UBC Hospital, GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre, Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute, and Vancouver Community Health Services.

The City of Surrey has released a call for bids for the most recent stage of a significant road improvement project for a busy arterial route. The project includes paving improvements on 152nd Street, installing multi-use pathways, installing streetlights, improving traffic signals, and widening the road between 152nd and 164th streets from two lanes to four lanes.

The two-story office building at 3020 Gilmore Diversion was recently acquired by BC Housing with the goal of constructing a new permanent shelter on the site.

LANGLEY 

The first King Taps location in Metro Vancouver has opened at Willowbrook Park Shopping Centre in Langley, which is operated by BGO.

Velocity Athletic Training Health and Functional Medicine is partnering with Nature’s Pharmacy located in Fort Langley, to offer consultations in areas of Menopause, Andropause, Anti-Aging, Sports Performance and overall wellness.

The 2024 Eric Flowerdew Volunteer Award was awarded to Tami Logan, the long-serving president of Langley Dance Connections and the vice president of the Focus on Disability Network and Langley Special Olympics, in recognition of her 20 years of local voluntary work.

The City of Pitt Meadows has expanded its Fire & Rescue Service with the addition of four new flex firefighters.

Duncan Stuart, a Mechanical Superintendent  at Pitt Meadows Plumbing, marks 28 years with the company.

The “Future of Work” event is scheduled to take place on April 24-25 at Pitt Meadows Plumbing in collaboration with Houle.

On May 13th, the Ridge Meadows Chamber of Commerce will host an open house at Driving Unlimited Academy, which will be hosted by Chamber President Jerry Kok.

  

MAPLE RIDGE 

Care Co Medical Clinic run by Dr. Nageswara Kolla, has officially opened on April 7.

The Telus Friendly Future Foundation donated to the Friends In Need Food Bank an extra $15,000 to support its School Meal and Snack Program.

The City of Maple Ridge is seeking permission from the Agricultural Land Commission to construct two additional arenas as part of a significant renovation of Planet Ice. The facility will include a curling club and four hockey rinks, and it will be located at 23580 Jim Robson Way.

The Ridge Meadows Chamber, City of Maple Ridge, and School District 42 will host the official launch of MOMENTUM 2025, a new Economic Growth & Success EXPO, at Thomas Haney School in Maple Ridge on May 22, 2025.
