SURREY – The Aspire building of Langley was named the Judges’ Choice Best Overall Entry in the Frontline Real Estate Services Fraser Valley Commercial Building Awards Thursday night at the Sheraton Guildford Hotel.
Aspire also won the Affordable Housing category in the event, which celebrated the best in commercial, industrial and revenue producing properties between White Rock and Chilliwack, including Harrison Mills, Mission, Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Abbotsford, Langley, Surrey and Delta completed between December 1 and January 31, 2022.
Freedom Capital was the Gold Sponsor of the awards, with category sponsors being Fortis BC, BC Hydro, Unitech Construction Management, Cascadia Windows & Doors, Russell Mechanical Systems, Avalon Mechanical, Genesis Security Group, the Surrey Board of Trade and Green Sheet Construction Data. Aspire, at 5068 221A Street in Langley, is owned by the Murrayville Rental Housing Limited Partnership. Architect/Designer was Cross Architecture and General Contractor was Ventana Construction Corporation.
Aspire provides long-term market rental housing for Langley’s senior population. Aspire rental housing supports senior (55+) population and 49 apartment units (30%) of the total number available units have been proposed for affordable unit‚ meaning rent will be set at or below the applicable Housing Income Limit and creates financial sustainability and a legacy for health in the community.
Two other major awards were also handed out. Architect of the Year, sponsored by Unitech Construction Management, was Keystone Architecture. Construction Company of the Year, sponsored by Avalon Mechanical: was ICE Group of Companies.

It has always been the dream of the Langley Hospice Society to build a free standing hospice for their community. Their goal was to build a residence that provided all the comforts of home for end-of-life patients and their families. The design plan was deliberate and unique to bring the “outdoors-inside”. The building wraps around a beautifully landscaped garden and courtyard.

The Kenzie Building project was designed to create more attainable living opportunities for its rapidly growing community. It was initially proposed for sales, however the project pivoted to further increase urbanization. It was then redesigned as a mixed use full rental building. The beautiful red brick and white frame structure is composed of 29 residential and 9 commercial units.

This project was brought to the attention of the owners by the Beedie Group, the land owners who came to them with the proposal to construct the building right up until the tenant improvement stage. One of the challenges was the unique roof shape. This required some thought process on how to frame this portion of the building.

The Woodland Cabins are the second phase of new cabins at Sandpiper Resort as part of a fulsome property update. Designed with nature in mind, the cabins have a Nordic feel with clean lines, wood and stone touches. Wood ceilings are from local supplier Woodtone – and their team worked to find local suppliers as much as possible. The wood ceilings continue outside.
