Chen runs Afterschool Solutions, a digital platform that tutors and educational companies use to create interactive lesson plans, do attendance, and monitor academic performance.
“Two years ago, my business partners and I decided to explore moving to Canada and after considering our options we felt that bringing one of our companies with us was the best strategy,” said Chen. “With that in mind, we re-assessed the Canadian market for our platform as the services required here were different from the services we provide in China.”
“After conducting market research, we rebuilt our software to better suit the Canadian market and are excited to share our product with Canada.”
After working in the education realm for a number of years, Chen knows the importance of mentorship and believes using a platform like the one at Afterschool Solutions provides value for students, parents and educators.
“We are creating value for Canadian Students and those participating in school programs, value for parents by seeing what their children are working on and observed learning patterns, and value for after school teachers and administrators by helping bolster the entire education system.”
Additionally, by using the platform and understanding students key skills and areas in which they excel, parents can help students as they mature and begin to plot a path to a career that suits their interests.
Chen acknowledges that AI and the future of work is creating confusion in what the future workforce will look like, which is why she believes these tools to help streamline and perfect learning patterns are more important now than ever.
With so much uncertainty and so much interference, keeping children focused and committed to their education is critical, according to Chen. Having the appropriate portal to learn about how children are performing and what can be done to help them will create a healthier education system and higher performing students.
“We are creating opportunity and innovation in the Canadian educational sector, an area that has traditionally remained unchanged,” said Chen. “The world has changed and so have our educational needs, we want to provide these tools for success.”
