PRINCE RUPERT – The Port of Prince Rupert has announced a $16 million dollar investment in a new maintenance and warehouse complex, with construction scheduled to begin in mid-September. The facility will be located at the intersection of Scott Road and Highway 16.
Expansion of Fairview Container Terminal created a need to relocate the Port’s maintenance building, as DP World acquired the Port’s current facility as part of the terminal expansion.
The new complex will be comprised of two buildings; the first housing the maintenance facility, and the second providing storage and warehouse space. The contract for the design and construction of the facility has been awarded to Coast Tsimshian Northern Contractors Alliance (CTNCA) in partnership with IDL Projects. Site clearing is scheduled to commence the week of September 6, 2016.
Throughout the duration of the project minimal impact to the public is anticipated. However, during the first stage of the project as site clearing and removal begins, scheduled blasting will interrupt road access to Scott Road and Highway 16 for approximately fifteen minutes per day during a month-long period beginning in late-October. Once the blasting schedule is finalized, it will be made available to the public via the Port’s website and social media channels.
The project is scheduled to be complete in September, 2017.
