John Hart Forcemain Replacement Project’s preliminary work is ongoing to upgrade vital infrastructure on the north side of the Nechako River. A single southbound lane on the John Hart Bridge will be blocked for one week starting October 1 as part of the renovation. Starting Oct. 9, both southbound lanes will be closed with detours for two weeks.

TERRACE
The City of Terrace has a Tax Sale planned for Monday, October 7.

The present Building Bylaw of the City of Terrace is undergoing an update as it has not been revised in twenty years. Council approved the revised building bylaw on Monday, September 9, after first, second, and third readings, and is expected to study, approve, and finalize the new bylaw sometime between the middle and end of October 2024.
The Indigenous Resource Network is a sponsor of the upcoming Nation2Nation Events Forum held in Terrace, on October 8th-10th, 2024.
WILLIAMS LAKE
The Williams Lake Council gave its approval for the sale of a City-owned property on McKinnon Road and accepted a bid of $58,000 (plus applicable taxes and fees).
The developer plans to utilize the property to allow the development of residential and commercial space on the site, which is expected to be finished in 18 months.
Council approved a $25,000 application to the Union of BC Municipalities 2024 Asset Management Planning program. The proposal, which is 50 per cent funded for a project worth $50,080, will assist the City in creating a Condition Assessment and Level of Service Framework that will be utilized to hire experts with specific knowledge and experience in structural engineering.
Free conventional and HandyDART service will be in effect on Saturday, October 19, the general voting day for the Provincial Election, as approved by Council.
Council declared Thursday, October 17, to be Purple Thursday in Williams Lake at the request of the Williams Lake Royal Purple. To commemorate the day, October 13–19, 2024, City Hall’s lights will be purple.
SMITHERS
Smithers Town Council is set to hold a public hearing on October 8th regarding a Liquor License Amendment Application from BV Brewery. This amendment is needed to allow for an outdoor patio addition that will accommodate 24 seats. The patio is set to become a key part of the establishment’s liquor service area, with operations scheduled from April to October once approved.
The Town of Smithers is seeking a talented individual to lead its Finance Department as the Director of Finance.
Smithers is holding their Provincial All-Candidates Forum on October 8th at the Della Herman Theatre at 7:30 pm.
QUESNEL
Indigenous Liaison, Councillor Laurey-Anne Roodenburg, in collaboration with Lhtako Dene Nation, will be organizing a gathering aimed at fostering relationships among local Elders, Chief, Council, and Quesnel City Council to initiate the healing journey.
The Photo Mural Installation project was approved by the Council and entirely financed by Heritage BC and a minor Museum Reserve donation from a Lily Hoy Price bequest. To enliven public areas, highlight underrepresented groups, and promote the City’s legacy, this project will install 4-6 archival images enlarged to near life-size.
The Council endorses the submission of an application to the Housing Accelerator Fund to stimulate investment in local development, including the review of the Zoning Bylaw and parking requirements, the creation of a public land acquisition and disposition action plan, the implementation of e-permitting, and the updates to the Development Application Procedures Bylaw, as well as Accessory Dwelling Units and multi-unit housing initiatives.
The purchase of 101 Marsh Drive, where the Food Hub and Nourish Food Bank are currently located has been completed. The Council has approved a lease with the Canadian Mental Health Association to operate the Nourish Food Bank and an operational agreement with the Sprout Kitchen Society to operate the Food Hub.
