KITIMAT
Petronas has agreed to a 20-year contract for the liquefaction capacity of one million tonnes annually at the Kitimat-based Cedar LNG project.
The Haisla Nation has reached an agreement with the sellers, California-based Chevron Corp. and Australia’s Woodside Energy Group Ltd., to purchase the assets of a shelved project that was once intended to be one of the biggest terminals for exporting liquefied natural gas from British Columbia.

The Northern Rockies Regional Council has passed Bylaw No. 240, 2025, which allows the exemption of certain properties and improvements from property taxes in accordance with the Community Charter. This exemption is set to take effect in 2026.
The proposed policy for the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality‘s lease and sale of municipal facilities and land was examined by the Regional Council. Tenants in the commercial sector will be required to pay market rent, while $100 per month will be charged to non-profit organizations that provide services and programs that are in line with the Council’s strategic aims.
Bylaw 238, 2025, NRRM Zoning Amendment (4401 55 St – Site-Specific Bulk Fuel), proposes amending the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality Zoning Bylaw No. 119, 2016, to allow a site-specific bulk fuel plant at 4401 55 Street. All other zoning requirements would stay unaffected as the amendment added “Bulk Fuel Plant” as an allowed principal use for that land. Local commercial and industrial development will be supported while zoning limitations are maintained.
Council amended a previous decision to confirm that the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality will manage Canada Community Building Fund – Strategic Priorities Fund grant funds if the application is successful. The Municipality will additionally fund any additional expenditures for installing the new Long-term Planning and Financial Analysis Software.
The 6 Yard Bin Collection Contract was awarded to Wide Sky Disposal 1989 Ltd. by the Regional Council for a three-year period. The contract includes garbage collection along the Alaska Highway from Prophet River to Contact Creek, as well as several municipal sites within Fort Nelson.
Deloitte LLP updated Regional Council on the Economic Diversification Strategy Project, which included a review of the previous Economic Development Strategy, new data collection, and analyses of the region’s economic base, investment readiness, and global trends.
