Susan Brown, President and Chief Executive Officer of Interior Health (IH), recently informed the Board of Directors that she will be retiring by the end of 2025. Brown has worked for the organization for 14 years, seven of those years as CEO.

Horizon Testing Inc., a non-destructive testing (NDT) company located in Prince George, has been acquired by the Hercules Group of Companies, headquartered in Dartmouth, NS.

Emilee Wells has been appointed as the new Northern Regional Construction Association‘s Harm Reduction Project Coordinator for Northern BC.

Josh Nilson, a well-known digital entrepreneur and investor, will be sharing his knowledge at Northern Innovation Network’s inaugural investment preparedness event for entrepreneurs and investors, Northern Angel Summit 2025, on May 23 in Prince George.

 WestJet is set to resume non-stop flights from Edmonton International Airport (YEG) to Kamloops and will introduce new service to Prince George beginning in the first week of July 2025.

A business located in British Columbia, Vitreo Minerals, hopes to provide a made-in-Canada solution to the expected increase in liquefied natural gas production by developing a sand mine north of Prince George. 

Following mediator Mark Brown’s suggestions, LifeLabs and the BC General Employees’ Union struck a three-year collective bargaining agreement that will last until March 31, 2027.

A Letter of Intent has been signed between CO2 Lock Corp., a climate technology firm based in British Columbia that specializes in permanent carbon storage, and EmitIQ, a prominent carbon markets platform. Up to 33 per cent of the carbon credits produced annually by CO2 Lock’s flagship carbon sequestration plant near Prince George or more than 300,000 verified carbon credits annually, will be purchased by EmitIQ under the conditions of the LOI.

Artemis Gold Inc. has announced its financial results for the first quarter of 2025, showcasing advancements at the Blackwater Mine in central BC. The mine successfully completed its first gold-silver pour in January and officially declared commercial production on May 1.

The City of Prince George and Northern Health – BC will be hosting a free DIY air cleaner workshop at 1100 Patricia Boulevard on Monday, June 2.

Prince George City Council approved a budget increase of $250,000 for the skylight renewal project at the Bob Harkins Library. The initial budget for the project was $875,000 but an inflationary increase to material costs (including tariffs on steel), as well as the complexity of the project, means the budget needs to increase to $1.125 million.

PRINCE RUPERT

TotalEnergies had executed an agreement with Ksi Lisims LNG to acquire 2 million tons of LNG annually from a future liquefaction plant for a period of 20 years, contingent upon the ultimate investment decision of the project. According to TotalEnergies, the company is also acquiring a 5 per cent stake in Western LNG, which is the developer, shareholder, and future operator of the Ksi Lisims LNG project.

The Prince Rupert Port Authority personnel participated in McHappy Day, supporting the fundraising efforts of Ronald McDonald House BC and Yukon and local youth. 

During the NCLGA Convention in Prince Rupert, the North Central Local Government Association executive has proposed a resolution in favor of developing a blood plasma donor center in Northern BC.

KITIMAT 

All-West Glass Kitimat celebrated their grand opening.

The indoor mural at the Sam Lindsay Aquatic Centre in Kitimat is scheduled to be completed by the summer of 2025, and is calling for artists to complete the project.

The first LNG production will be prepared for exports in late June at LNG Canada, a liquefaction facility situated in Kitimat, the traditional territory of the Haisla Nation.

Kitimat Clean has decided to end their participation in the federally-paused environmental review of the Kitimat Clean Refinery, according to an announcement from the British Columbia Environmental Assessment Office.

WILLIAMS LAKE 

Construction on the future home of the Knucwentwecw Society has started on Quigli Drive in the Coyote Rock commercial subdivision, located on the reserve lands of the Williams Lake First Nation. The net-zero, 11,000 square foot building is a $15 million boost to the neighborhood’s economy.

Hakai Energy Solutions Inc. announced that the 500 solar modules that make up the 227.5 kW rooftop solar array at the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex in Williams Lake had been successfully completed.

School District 27 (SD27) and Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN) have renewed their Local Education Agreement (LEA) with a new goal: improving the sharing and utilization of data to assist Indigenous students.

Williams Lake has been recognized as one of BC’s most economically resilient cities, earning the 44th spot in BC Business’s 2025 rankings.
