Chris O’Riley, President and CEO of BC Hydro, will be honoured at a breakfast event hosted by the Prince George Chamber on June 14 at the Courtyard by Marriott in Prince George.

Canfor has declared that it is terminating a production line at its Northwood Pulp Mill in Prince George and closing its Polar sawmill permanently in Bear Lake.

The Emergency Programs team at the City of Prince George has been diligently preparing the Emergency Support Services (ESS) Reception Centre in anticipation of the upcoming summer season. Thanks to provincial funding, four trailers have been leased and delivered to the back of the Kin Centre, where they will serve as the cornerstone of the city’s summer emergency response efforts.

The Economic Development Office and supporting City staff of the City of Prince Rupert were honoured with the Community Resiliency Award at this year’s BC Economic Development Association Awards.

The Prince Rupert and District Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce the arrival of Carnival Cruises, marking the start of the summer tourist season.

Wolverine TerminalsPrince Rupert Marine Fuels Terminal received the much anticipated delivery of its two new barges. The rail and distribution barges will enable marine fueling service for large vessels, filling an important service gap at the Port of PrinceRupert. Work continues at the terminal to prepare for bunkering operations, which will commence in the coming months.
Advanced surgical Rhinology services will soon be available to patients across northwestern B.C. for the first time ever, thanks to a partnership between the Prince Rupert Port Authority and the Dr REM Lee Hospital Foundation.

 

FORT ST JOHN

Michael Bacso will take charge over the Fort St. John Huskies for the tenth season as board president.

The 2024 Spark Women’s Leadership Conference, themed “Fearless: Unlock Your Powerful Potential,” is currently accepting registrations. The conference is scheduled to take place at the Pomeroy Hotel and Conference Centre in Fort St. John on September 25th and 26th.

The 2024 Spirit of the Peace Pow Wow will be held on June 7-9 at the Taylor District Ice Centre located at 9880 Cherry Avenue.

The North Peace Secondary School cosmetology program at Northern Lights College welcomes Fort St. John evacuees seeking hair care.

Lambourne Environmental Ltd. was invited to tender by the Peace River Regional District (PRRD) to clean the wastewater lagoons at Charlie Lake, Rolla, and Kelly Lake.

A ReGreening Grant in the amount of $7,500 is awarded to BC Hydro for tree planting at Fort St. John’s off-leash dog park.

KITIMAT

Umo, a cutting-edge electronic fare system, is introduced by BC Transit in Terrace, Kitimat, and the Skeena region, improving transportation convenience with contactless payment alternatives.

 Rio Tinto BC Works is celebrating 70 years anniversary.

The Nisg̱a’a Nation, located north of Kitimat, B.C., is spearheading the development of a groundbreaking LNG facility known as Ksi Lisims. This facility has the potential to produce a significant amount of liquefied natural gas annually.

Supporting the expanding mining industry, Securiguard Services Ltd. has formed 26 joint ventures across Canada, including some notable ones in Northern British Columbia. These partnerships draw on Securiguard’s considerable critical infrastructure expertise in the safety and security domain.

Parks Canada, announced the designation of Kitimat station under the Heritage Railway Stations Protection Act. Designated heritage railway stations are protected from unauthorized alteration, sale, transfer, or disposal.

 

TERRACE

BC Hydro and Spanish Mountain Gold Ltd. (SMG), a Canadian mining and exploration company, have partnered with ANDRITZ to reduce the carbon intensity of its proposed gold mine near Williams Lake.

TikiTan Organic Spray Tanning has moved to its new loaction in Williams Lake at Unit 2, 160 Oliver St.

The Williams Lake Fire Department is hosting an Open House on May 25 at the Fire Hall, 230 Hodgson Rd.

QUESNEL 

Atlas Holdings has acquired pulp mills in British Columbia and Alberta from West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd. for $164 million.

A groundbreaking initiative to promote sustainable innovation and convert forest byproducts into more valuable bio-based goods and markets was spearheaded by Foresight Canada in collaboration with the City of Quesnel, Ecostrat Inc., and the Three Rivers Community Forest.

The City of Quesnel, Ecostrat Inc., and the BDO Zone Initiative announced that Quesnel, has been awarded the province’s first Forest Residues rating—an investment-grade Bioeconomy Development Opportunity (BDO) Zone ‘A’ rating—by the BDO Zone Initiative.

Erin Rossmannof the Quesnel & District 4-H Club in BC has been designated the 2023 National Volunteer Leader of the Year by 4-H Canada.

 

100 MILE HOUSE 

The 100 Mile House & District Historical Society has set a goal to raise $2 million by the end of 2025 in order to relocate the historic 153 Mile Store to the 108 Heritage Site.

District of 100 Mile House Council received the Community Tourism Plan at the Committee of the Whole Meeting on Tuesday, April 23rd , 2024.  Justin Rousseau, Managing Director of Expedition Management Consulting presented the key areas of the Tourism Plan. 

Eclectica Community Choir recently hosted their annual Spring Concert at Martin Exeter Hall. The event served as a fundraiser for the 100 Mile Hospital Auxiliary and the Fischer Place/Mill Site Lodge Auxiliary, resulting in a donation of over $1,000.
