FORT ST JOHN – Fort St. John Mayor Lori Ackerman was recently presented with the 2019 Canadian Energy Person of the Year Award. The award was presented by the Energy Council of Canada, an organization that hosts roundtable discussions and holds policy forms on the energy industry, bringing together all levels of government, associations and all energy industries.
The award was established in 2001 in recognition of Canadian leaders that are making an impact for the energy sector at a national and international scale. In her three-term tenure as mayor, Acherman has worked to raise Fort St. John’s profile in provincial and national conversatiosn about natural resource development in Canada.
As a part of the award, the Energy Council donated to the charity of Ackerman’s choosing – Fort St. John and Area Senior Care Foundation. The foundation has a small budget of about $28,000 and provides important services for seniors such as Meals on Wheels and Better at Home.
