FORT ST JOHN – Fort St. John welcomed nearly 1,500 athletes, coaches, and officials for the 2020 BC Winter Games February 20-23, 2020. Another 1,500 friends, family members and fans of the games attended to help generate nearly $1.8 million in economic activity in the Fort St. John area.
The combined spending of out-of-town participants, delegates, spectators, and other people who visited Fort St. John for the BC Winter games, in combination with expenditures made by the event organizers totalling almost $1.4 million, and produced over $2.1 million in overall economic activity in British Columbia.
“The 2020 BC Winter Games showcased the best of our community, from our volunteers to our supportive business community. As with events in the past, these Games provided welcome economic activity in what has turned into a difficult year for local businesses,” said Mayor Lori Ackerman.
The BC Winter Games are British Columbia’s biennial celebration of sport and community bringing together British Columbia’s best emerging high-performance athletes, trained coaches, and certified officials for four days competition. This experience is an important development opportunity and stepping-stone towards higher level sport competitions.
