LANGLEY CITY – On time and on budget, the $19 million revitalization of Fraser Highway One-Way was officially opened on September 15.
This was Langley City’s largest investment since 2000 and coincided with the City’s 70th anniversary.
“This project is more than pavement and pipes, it’s really about people,” says Langley City Mayor Nathan Pachal. “We’ve created a space that reflects our values of sustainability, accessibility, and community pride. It’s a place where residents, businesses, and visitors can connect, celebrate, and thrive.”
The revitalization project has transformed the Fraser Highway One-Way into a pedestrian-friendly destination, featuring upgraded underground utilities, expanded walkways, new street trees and landscaping, and enhanced public gathering spaces designed with community safety, accessibility, and long-term planning in mind.
Langley City extended its sincere thanks to downtown businesses for their patience and resilience throughout the construction period. With the revitalization now complete, businesses are open and ready to welcome the community and visitors from across Metro Vancouver into this vibrant, new space.
Throughout the planning and construction of the Fraser Highway One-Way project, the City took a proactive approach to public engagement, going beyond what is typical for municipal infrastructure projects. Targeted engagement sessions with property owners and businesses helped shape the streetscape design, while a monthly Business Liaison Committee, made up of local business representatives and project staff, provided a direct channel for feedback on traffic management, signage, and communications.
Weekly newsletters also kept businesses informed and engaged throughout the process, helping ensure the project remained responsive to both community and business needs.
