FORT ST. JOHN – BC Hydro is seeking applications from agricultural producers to sit on the four-member board of a $20 million fund intended to support agricultural production and agrifoods in the Peace Region.
The fund is part of Site C’s Agricultural Mitigation and Compensation Plan, which reflects BC Hydro’s recognition of the role agriculture plays in the Peace River region and the potential effects of Site C on agriculture.
Implementation of the fund begins this year, starting with formation of a 10-member funding board comprised of six appointees of regional agricultural associations or the Peace River Regional District, three members-at-large who are agricultural producers living in the Peace Region, and one member who is a Peace River Valley agricultural producer.
The regional decision-making board will be responsible for disbursement of the fund. Members are expected to be selected in the spring. A fund administrator will be appointed later this year to manage the fund and act as a secretariat to the board.
