WESTERN CANADA SECURITY: IMPROVING PUBLIC SAFETY

VICTORIAWestern Canada Security has a simple and straightforward mission: To improve public safety on Vancouver Island.

It was in 2022 that owner Inderbir Singh founded the company, which captured the Medium Business of the Year category at the TD Vancouver Island Business Excellence Awards at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre in February.

“Our Security Officers don’t ‘watch over’ the community as much as they play an active part in it,” Singh states. “That starts at the top, with our leadership showing great support of community initiatives. The ethos trickles down, too.

“When our guards are on-site, the strive to create positive interactions with customers and the public. They’re not just a silent presence waiting for something to go wrong. They infuse our clients’ sites with a friendly and engaged presence. That helps deter incidents in a very meaningful way.”

Western Canada Security has two main services to offer clients.

“First is our suite of protective technologies. We recommend, install, and monitor a range of devices: alarm panels, access-control systems, CCTV cameras, and environmental sensors that also serve a security function,” he explains. “Our expertise ensures that clients have the right hardware and software for the job as well as a setup that makes sense within their budget. Technology products are highly effective, in our case, because we make sure that they are backed by human intelligence and vigilance.

“Over the long term, a set-it-and-forget mentality doesn’t tend to work out for sites with significant and evolving risk profiles.”

Their consulting program has proven to be very popular with customers.

“We can assess risks, create custom security plans, and train front-line staff in de-escalation techniques,” he notes. “These services can empower clients to take matters into their own hands, but with the backing of local experts from the protection services industry. Our advice helps businesses and homeowners plan ahead instead of simply reacting to issues as they arise. We like to say that ‘afterward is always too late’.”

Singh represents the company at events, but he is also busy visiting clients in their offices, or meeting with industry partners, and, of course, at their Victoria headquarters.

“From there, I have ultimate oversight of our dispatch, field operations, technology installations, and monitoring station, while also working hard to broaden and deep our public reputation,” he states.

Western Canada Security has posted strong growth numbers since its inception, which is positive for the company, while being a negative due to the increasing security issues on Vancouver Island, making it necessary for extra security in multiple forms and venues.

Western Canada Security uses the latest technology to keep clients safe

“Vancouver Island is facing increasing security concerns, due to a wave of public disorder related to poverty, disenfranchisement, disaffection, and drug addiction,” he points out. “So, businesses in and around Victoria have had to take extra security measures. But some of the growth comes from the reputation that we’ve built. People turn to us because of our community-minded approach and our dedication to excellent customer service. So, there’s some good news in there, too.”

The company’s “full-scope, full-service” mandate has been a major key to its success.

“’Full scope’ refers to our complete security ecosystem. From consulting to systems and personnel, we provide end-to-end security supports. And each of our divisions is fully integrated with the others, so that strategy, technology, and staff all speak to each other. That improves results,” he says.

“’Full service’ refers to our strong customer service. We continually meet with clients to make sure that needs are met and that expectations are exceeded. Whatever pain points our customers experience, we know that there are time-tested prevention measures that we can put in place.

“We will doggedly pursue resolutions until clients find the peace of mind that they deserve.”
