LANTZVILLE – TS Williams has always concentrated on quality over quantity, and paying attention to detail from concept to completion of their national award winning custom homes.
Owner and President Taran Williams, who founded the company 29 years ago, notes the firm focuses on oceanside and oceanview multi-million dollar homes, and typically builds 3-4 homes at any one time.

“When you stay small, you’re not focused on growth, but on quality,” he states. “I strive to stay small and focus on quality, and I think that’s why we’re always busy. Our aim has to become recognized for our quality. So our success is not by accident; it’s due to our diligence, keeping our heads down and producing consistently nice quality homes.
“We’re a boutique home building company, and we’re not looking for quantity,” he adds. “We don’t get into bidding wars over projects. Our clients choose us carefully, and we choose them. We have to be a good fit for them. It’s a marriage of sorts, because we’re in it for the long haul, from the time they decide on the house to building it. It can be anywhere from two to five years, so it’s a long-term relationship.”
TS Williams homes are on the higher end of the construction scale, which some would call luxury, although that doesn’t sit well with some.
“We pride ourselves on being a one-stop shop,” he says. “We handle everything right through to the finished landscaping, as we want to take every project to total completion. We feel the landscaping goes hand in hand with the home, and we want to make sure everything is harmonious and works in unison.”
TS Williams builds exclusively in central Vancouver Island, with their homes being built in Nanaimo, Lantzville, Nanoose Bay, Parksville and Qualicum Beach. They are usually booked three to four years out, and they’re just finishing homes in Fairwinds, Qualicum Beach and Gabriola Island.
“We tailor every home to what our customers’ lifestyle is,” Williams states. “We ask them where they want to be 20 years from now, so we pride ourselves on building forever homes for them. Whether it’s adding an elevator shaft or providing easy access for mobility issues, we look at every angle for every project.”
Williams has been in construction for over three decades, and along the way worked in New Zealand, Manitoba, Alberta and Ontario, where he gathered valuable insight that he’s been able to incorporate into his own style of building. The company has been in Nanoose for over 20 years, and they recently moved their office to Lantzville.
TS Williams has seven staff members, and they rely heavily on their chosen circle of trades to build projects.

“We have a dozen sub-trades that we like to use,” he points out. “We always operate from the premise that we use trades for what they specialize in. We like to use the best trades available in our demographic. I tell our clients that I help with the design of the home, landscaping, managing the products, and we use the best trades available for our projects.
Williams enjoys the challenge of working with architects and designers, and making what they visualize into reality.
“My job is to make sure that our craftsmanship meets the vision. We’re expected to put out a high end product, so it takes a lot of work to make sure the vision is created properly,” he says. “I like to give a lot of credit to our trades. Without our skilled trades, we can’t do what we do.”
And along the way, Williams is on-site.
“Just because you’re building a high end product doesn’t change who you are,” he observes. “I grew up with a hammer in my hand and that’s how I’ll go out. It would kill me to not be on a job site. I love being involved from when we dig the hole until we help them buy furniture, from start to finish.”
