The industrial property at 1223 Derwent Way was bought out by the Greater Vancouver Sewerage and Drainage District for $37.15 million.

Twin Sails, owned by Clay Allmin and Brave Brewing, owned by Chris Peacock are merging.

Commercial fishermen will soon be able to sell their freshly caught fish at the Elliott Street Wharf in Ladner, according to new regulations put in place by the city.

A rezoning proposal has been submittied for a new purpose-built 78-unit rental complex at 5737 Ladner Trunk Rd. by Maple Leaf Homes.

The BC & Alberta Guide Dogs’ Capital Campaign has received a $50,000 donation from the Rotary Club of Tsawwassen, which will help build a new Breeding and Training Centre of Excellence. 

Construction on the new Winskill Baseball Diamonds is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, April 22 and will continue through to late September 2025.

Jakes Construction Ltd. has secured the contract for the restoration of Othello Road.

Chilliwack Ford, the Downtown Chilliwack BIA, and the Greater Vancouver Food Truck Festival are set to host a weekend of excitement with the Chilliwack Party in the Park on April 26th at Central Community Park.

The Essential Health Care Workers‘ Accommodation Program, a collaboration between the Chilliwack Division of Family Practice, Chilliwack Medical Staff Association, Fraser Health Authority, Chilliwack Economic Partners Corporation, and Algra Bros Developments, offers visiting health care professionals furnished, short-term housing for just $50 per night. The costs for the condo and the furnishings were supported through a collaborative cost-sharing arrangement by community partners. The Chilliwack Division of Family Practice sees this program as a model for other communities facing similar shortages.

3,065 streetlights in Chilliwack have been converted to LED lighting, which equals an annual savings of around $189,000 according to the City of Chilliwack.

The Sweet Spring Flower and Animal Festival at Greendale Acres Farm at 41905 Yale Rd. W., opens its 2025 season and will run through May 11.

The Comedy Department’s Improv Comedy Rumble will be held at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on April 25.

The City is proud to continue its partnership with the Ridge Meadows Chamber of Commerce through a renewed Fee-for-Service Agreement—investing $18,000 annually over the next three years to boost local economic development. 

The City announced that it has increased the size of its Fire and Rescue Service by adding four more flex firefighters to its roster.

 

MAPLE RIDGE 

During the annual Citizen of the Year Awards ceremony that was held by the Maple Ridge Community Foundation, the renowned veterinarian Dr. Adrian Walton was selected to receive the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, Lucy Meechan was honoured with the Teesha Sharma Memorial Award, and Noah Augustine was chosen to receive the Youth Achievement Award. Kevin Nosworthy, president of the Maple Ridge Community Foundation, was selected as the recipient of the Citizen of the Year Award.

Maple Ridge city hall is moving forward with the North 256 Street Industrial Lands project, aimed at attracting new businesses, creating jobs, diversifying the tax base, and supporting long-term economic growth.
