B.C. will implement a 2.6 per cent wage increase for its lowest-paid workers on June 1, 2025, aligning with inflation. The general minimum wage will rise from $17.40 to $17.85 per hour, following changes to the Employment Standards Act in spring 2024, which now require annual wage increases.

The Minister of Transport and Internal Trade of the Government of Canada has announced an investment of up to $33.1 million in the National Trade Corridors Fund for six initiatives in Alberta and British Columbia. Accelerate Okanagan has launched Ascend BC, a $3.98 million initiative aimed at speeding up the growth of scale-ready technology companies in the Interior of British Columbia. This initiative is backed by a $1.98 million investment from PacifiCan, funded through its Business Acceleration Pilot (BizAP), with additional support from Innovate BC and ETSI-BC (Economic Trust of the Southern Interior). Ascend BC is set to provide founders with tailored mentorship, fractional executive services, and access to capital and peer networks through this initiative. 

The Prince Rupert Port Authority has teamed up with the Metlakatla Development Corporation to create the South Kaien Import Logistics Park (SKILP), a new Indigenous-led joint venture worth over $100 million is set to bring lasting economic advantages to Metlakatla. It aims to create more job opportunities for local Indigenous workers and enhance intermodal trade via the Prince Rupert Gateway.

With a pilot program set to begin on February 25, 2025, the BC Financial Services Authority will grant an extension of the early marketing time under the Real Estate Development Marketing Act (“REDMA”) from 12 months to 18 months to major residential complexes with 100 units or more.
