BRITISH COLUMBIA – Marcus Lowe is the President and Co-founder of Pockit Self Storage.
Launched in 2017 in partnership with Hungerford Properties, one of Western Canada’s leading private equity real estate firms, they forged a plan to establish Pockit Self Storage as a premier storage provider in underserved markets through ground-up development, strategic acquisitions and third-party management.
A growing trend towards smaller residential dwellings due to the high costs of living means that self-storage has become an integral part of many urban communities, and Pockit Self Storage is helping fill that need with locations in Vancouver, Abbotsford, and West Kelowna, as well as four locations throughout Manitoba.
“At Pockit, we are a group of driven professionals who are passionate about our business and establishing our organization as a leader within our evolving industry. We believe in exceeding the needs and expectations of our customers and gaining the trust and respect of the communities we serve. We aim to provide our customers with the highest quality of value and service, in safe, convenient and dependable locations. The total customer experience is always our top priority. In addition to our friendly and professional staff, our modern and secure facilities offer many features that cater to the specific needs of our customers, providing them with the comfort of knowing they made the right choice. Our mission is to provide a high quality, convenient, professional and easy self-storage rental experience that focuses on customer satisfaction first,” states Lowe.
One of the things that sets Pockit Self Storage apart in the marketplace is its third-party management, best practices consulting and development guidance for self-storage operators. Their management platform provides a variety of services: Onsite & Remote Property Management, Revenue Optimization and Expense Management, Staffing & Employee Development, Property Maintenance and Project Management, Delinquent Account & Lien Management, Sales & Marketing, and Full-Service Accounting & Comprehensive Reporting, as well as Operational Consulting, Market Feasibility, and Competition Surveys for Self-Storage.
“Leveraging the depth of our senior management team, our goal is to create a best-in-class operational platform that is supported by effective policies, procedures and structure in an environment and culture of accountability, productivity and profitability to serve our stakeholders, all the while ensuring opportunity for future growth, competitive advantages and financial stability,” he points out.
Pockit Self Storage believes in good corporate citizenship and strives to set new standards of excellence in the storage industry. They also believe in giving back to the communities it serves by supporting various charitable causes.
“We hire local employees, serve local customers, purchase products and services from local vendors, and support local charities and community initiatives; we are contributors and members of the communities in which we operate,” comments Lowe.
Looking forward, Pockit Self Storage has secured multiple high profile development opportunities in the Burnaby, New Westminster, and South Surrey submarkets of the Lower Mainland.
Construction of the first of three state-of-the-art facilities is anticipated to commence in early 2025, representing in aggregate over 340,000 square feet of net rentable area and approximately 4,200 self storage units.
Lowe has over two decades of frontline leadership and operations management experience in both the public and private sectors. His range of expertise includes administration, acquisitions, customer service, development, financial accounting, human resources, investor relations, property management, information technology and privacy.
Prior to co-founding Pockit Self Storage, Lowe served as President of APEX Self Storage Group of Companies, Vice President of Operations for InStorage REIT and Public Storage Canada. He also served as a Director on the Board of the Canadian Self Storage Association 2004 – 2012. Lowe holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Simon Fraser University.
