NANAIMO – The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) Board approved community grants for 27 organizations across the region at the July 9, 2024, board meeting. The value of the community grants awarded for the spring 2024 intake totals $97,622 and will be used for a variety of community-focused projects. Community grants help registered non-profit organizations deliver social programs and services that serve a local community or provide a regional benefit.

• Coastal Invasive Species Committee Society – Education, awareness and field programs: $3,700
• ECHO Players Society – Replacement of old seating in the auditorium: $5,000
• Errington Preschool Parents Society – Art supplies and outdoor play equipment: $2,000
• Gabriola Commons Foundation – Upgrades to the electrical system to meet code: $5,000
• Gabriola Land and Trails Trust – Invasive species removal, education and restoration: $2,675
• Gabriola Songs Society dba Gabriola Theatre Centre – Lighting equipment needs: $2,700
• Help Ukraine Vancouver Island Society – Monthly food share program for over 130 families: $5,000
• Jonanco Hobby Workshop Association – Quilt batting and lapidary supplies: $2,500
• Kwalikum Secondary School 2024 Dry Grad – Dry Grad celebration: $2,500

• PQB Fruit Tree Foundation – Farm School at the MAC Community Garden: $4,000
• Qualicum Beach Historical and Museum Society – Annual Children’s Museum Day: $1,000
• Qualicum Beach Multi-Use Cinema Society – Closed top trailer to transport and store 80 director-style seats for cinema seating for indoor and outdoor events: $4,000
• Royal Canadian Legion Seaview Centennial Branch 257 – Upgrade the steam table and glass washer as per food safe requirements: $6,000
• Take a Hike Youth Mental Health Foundation – Outdoor land-based learning for up to 32 youth experiencing vulnerabilities: $4,000
• The Friends of Nanoose Library Society – 50 year community celebration event: $2,000
• The Men’s Centre – Purchase of furniture and computers – $3,500
• Women of Influence Nanaimo / Footprints Infertility and Pregnancy Loss Support Society – Second annual Women of Influence Nanaimo Awards Gala: $3,000
