Future of University Heights Park Input

PRINCE GEORGE – The City of Prince George is inviting residents to provide input on the future development of Chancellor Park, located in University Heights.

The 17,000-square-metre parcel of land, situated between Chancellor Boulevard and Maurice Drive, has been scheduled for a potential upgrade in 2025.

Recreation Infrastructure Program Success

QUESNEL –The Gold Rush Cycling Club expanded the Wonderland Trail Network near Quesnel in 2022 thanks in part to a $65,391 Recreation Infrastructure grant.

Gold Rush Cycling Club’s main objective is to maintain, enhance and develop sustainable mountain bike trail networks within the City of Quesnel and the Cariboo Regional District. The club is committed to developing a trail network that promotes fun for all ages, abilities and interests and that will continue to evolve with the current industry and trail standards to ensure viability for generations to come.

Rodeo Draws over 4,000 to Williams Lake

WILLIAMS LAKE – The second annual Indoor Spring Classic Rodeo kicked off April 19 at the Cariboo Memorial Recreational Centre in Williams Lake. This three-day event featured barrel racing, a barrel man/clown and dog act, bronc and bareback riding, bull and mini-bull riding, and steer riding. The Saturday event and dance were sold out with over 4,000 attendees for the duration of the weekend.

This is the first rodeo of the season in B.C. and Northern Development supported the Indoor Spring Classic with a $5,000 grant through the Fabulous Festivals and Events program.

 

Community Forest Honoured for Excellence

BURNS LAKE – A Burns Lake community forest group has been honoured by the Province for excellence in forest management and wildfire mitigation.

Chinook Community Forest was presented with the 2024 Robin Hood Memorial Award on June 12, 2024, in Mackenzie. Chinook Community Forest has taken a leading role in sustainable forest management and wildfire mitigation in the Burns Lake area. In 2023, it completed 200 hectares of wildfire risk-reduction treatments around the community, along with surveying another 1,000 hectares for wildfire risk-reduction projects.

Annual Report Available for 2023

PRINCE RUPERT – The 2023 Annual Report is now available for the public to view in advance of Council consideration to adopt the report at the June 24th meeting. The report helps to inform the public about City business in advance of our Annual Public Meeting at 7pm where the community is invited to provide comment on the report and City activities.

Cycle 16 Funding Announcement

SMITHERS – Exciting news for the Cycle 16 project was announced Tuesday, June 18th from the province.

The remaining phases of the Smithers – Telkwa multi-use trail are fully funded through the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure’s Active Transportation Capital Fund.
