DELTA

The City of Delta is relocating a Ladner Village pop-up to its original location, on Bridge Street, following a request from the Ladner Business Association (LBA).

The City of Delta has just announced that construction is set to begin on the new track facility at Delta Secondary in Ladner. This $5 million project is a collaboration between the city and the Delta School District.

As part of a series of planned upgrades worth over $2 million, the City of Delta has issued a request for bids for the construction of a new front entrance vestibule serving as the entrance for municipal hall in Ladner. The improvements are expected to be finished by the end of September 2024.

A $3,500 donation from the CWB Welding Foundation will soon be available to Burnsview Secondary students in the form of state-of-the-art welding equipment.

Dragonfly Antique & Salvage are moving from their Chisholm Street store location to 4930 Elliot Street in Ladner. They will be re-locating into the ground floor retail space and opening for business in the next 60 days and they have re-branded to be REVIVAL ANTIQUES.

 

WHITE ROCK

Pardon Me Hearing has officially opened a location in White Rock at 1267 Johnston Road.

On June 17 and 20, the White Rock Community Centre, 15154 Russell Avenue, will host one of two open houses where the city expects the public may provide input on the Five Corners Improvement Project.

Duffey’s Sports Grill at Northview GCC made the list of BC Restaurants that ranked in the top 100 for outdoor dining according to OpenTable.

Civil infrastructure contractor Jacob Bros. Construction, is set to be acquired by Bird Construction for $135 million. Scott Jacob, chief executive officer, and Todd Jacob, chief operating officer, will both be joining Bird to oversee the merger of their respective businesses with Bird’s Western Infrastructure division.

King George Station on the Expo Line has reopened as of June 9, coinciding with the start of SkyTrain service.

LANGLEY

A rezoning bylaw for a 0.59 acre (0.24 hectare) plot of land in the 27300 block of Fraser Highway, next to the Aldergrove Town Centre being built, was moved for first and second readings by council.

A second “Paws on the Green” fundraiser for the Langley Animal Protection Society (LAPS) will be held at the Fort Langley Golf Course on Thursday, June 27.

ABBOTSFORD

TIABC CEO Walt Judas, along with Tourism Abbotsford‘s Barb Roberts and Clare Seeley, as well as VCM’s Chad Wetsch, recently visited a land-based Tilapia fish farm owned and operated by the Sumas First Nation. The Sumas First Nation is expanding their Fraser Valley holdings and has ambitious plans to enhance Abbotsford’s tourism infrastructure and experiences.

Brodeur’s Bistro in Abbotsford will be closing its doors on July 7th and moving to a new location in Langley’s Willoughby neighbourhood, at 204th Street and 86th Avenue.

The Honda Way – Abbotsford announced that the new Civic Hybrid sedan, with 200 horsepower and 232 lb.-ft. of torque, will begin production this June at Honda of Canada Mfg.

The agricultural staff of four Highline Mushrooms, a Canadian mushroom grower owned by the multinational agrifood company Fyffes, recently stated that they would like to become members of United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Canada.

The University of the Fraser Valley‘s Community Health and Social Innovation hub (CHASI) has been recognized in the B.C. legislature in February, this year.

 

CHILLIWACK

The Paramount, located at #100-46187 Yale Rd, will be open to the public on June 25 as part of an open house held by Chilliwack Community Services (CCS).

The provincial government announced a $40 million expansion project for Sardis Secondary School, which would include a new gymnasium and a two-story building.

On Saturday, June 22, the Rotary Club of Chilliwack is celebrating 20 years of self-guided tours with their Garden Tour 2024. There will be eight gardens, mostly private but also a few commercial, to explore.

BC Transit will resume summer bus service to Cultus Lake on June 30, 2024, along with Sunday service to Harrison Hot Springs.

The Local Government Approvals Program of the Union of British Columbia (UBCM) is scheduled to provide $150,000 to the Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD) in order to assist them in meeting the housing needs of the residents.

Pitt Meadows Plumbing, a top mechanical contractor in Canada, and Revizto have extended their cooperation for nearly ten years with a new enterprise agreement.

Northern Dock Systems has moved to a larger warehouse at 502 – 19100 Airport Way, Pitt Meadows.

 

MAPLE RIDGE 

Sharmila Miller is starting a new position as Secondary Racial Inclusivity District Helping Teacher at Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows School District No.42.

5 Corners Furniture and Appliances has opened on June 16th at 22390 Lougheed Hwy, Maple Ridge.

Mathnasium, The Math Learning Center, is now under new management and will have its grand reopening on June 21st.

 

MISSION 

The City of Mission has appointed Dan Schubert, Ryan Laurin, Alex Putrenko, James Atebe, and Lilian Kan to the board of directors of Mission Bridgehead Investment Corporation, a new city-owned economic development organization. Mayor Paul Horn, Councilman Mark Davies, Mission Chief Administrative Officer Mike Younie, and Finance Director Doug Stewart are the non-voting directors. Kan, Putrenko, and Schubert will hold three-year terms on the board of directors, while Atebe and Laurin will hold two-year terms.
