DELTA 

The Delta Film Academy will hold an open house at the Delta Manor Education Centre, 4750 57 Street in Ladner, on April 13. During the event, attendees can learn more about the programs offered, which include Film Acting, Film Production, and Visual Effects.

The Ladner Rotarians are holding a Shred-a-thon fundraiser on April 13 from the property behind Eastlink (Delta Cable) at 5381 Ladner Trunk Road. Proceeds from the event will go toward funding the South Delta Food Bank and the Rotary-sponsored pantry program at Delta Secondary.

The City of Delta plans to add 20 additional charging stations this year, including a DC fast charge station at the North Delta Recreation Centre.

RapidCash ATM Ltd. has been installed at the Husky Delta, located at 8781 120 Street.

Delta Council gave first and second readings to the new OCP Bylaw at their Regular Meeting on April 8, initiating a Public Hearing for the proposed plan that will guide decisions on development in the City of Delta for the next 20 years. The City will hold a Public Hearing scheduled for Monday, April 22, in the Council Chamber at Delta City Hall beginning at 3 pm.

Tara Bosch

The Surrey Board of Trade announced that Tara Bosch, Founder of SmartSweets, as guest speaker for Surrey’s Top 25 Under 25 Awards, taking place on May 9th.

The South Asian Community Hub will hold its inaugural fundraising gala at Crown Palance Banquet Hall on April 26. The organization provides comprehensive services to individuals and families dealing with social and health issues.

Simon Fraser University will house the first medical school to be established in Western Canada in 55 years. This development, which the Government of British Columbia has approved, will transform Surrey into a national hub for health care innovation.

 

LANGLEY

Tore Jacobsen

Tore Jacobsen, newly sworn in as Chair-Elect of the FVREB and Chair of the SGRC, received the Advocacy Award from the BC Real Estate Association at the recent GL Days in Victoria on March 11-12.

CKF Inc., the largest employer in Langley City, announced that it will “transition” a plastic recycling facility located in Delta to the CKF foam manufacturing facility in Langley.

The largest food truck festival in Canada, the Greater Vancouver Food Truck Festival, will return to the KPU Langley campus for its third year on April 19, 20, and 21.

The Fraser Valley University (UFV) celebrated its 50th anniversary.

A service change is scheduled to take effect on September 5th, as bus stops at the Montrose Exchange will be temporarily moved and minor routing adjustments will be made. This change is being announced by BC Transit, the City of Abbotsford, and the City of Mission in preparation for the fall redevelopment at the exchange.

Abbys Flowers Plus grand opening takes place April 10th at 11:30.

CHILLIWACK

The Cottonwood Centre in Chilliwack will welcome two new eateries in October 2024: Opa! of Greece and Boardwalk Burgers.

The B.C. Knowledge Development Fund is providing $617,125 to the Berry Environmental Resilience Research and Innovation (BERRI) Lab, which is scheduled to open this summer at the University of the Fraser Valley‘s Chilliwack campus.

BC SPCA AnimalKind accreditation has been given to Erynn Tomlinson, owner and trainer of Creekside Canine in Cultus Lake.

Southern Irrigation‘s Chilliwack location opened April 6th. They are located at 46115 Yale Road and specialize in all things ‘Water’.

 

PITT MEADOWS 

Pitt Meadows Plumbing & Mechanical Systems has been awarded one of four Construction Leadership Awards by the British Columbia Construction Association (BCCA) as part of Construction & Skilled Trades Month.

 

The Pitt Meadows Regional Airport  will be provided with $520,000 from the BC Air Access Program, to procure perimeter fencing and replace culverts.
