KELOWNA – Providing a unique variety of designs has been an attractive reason for clients to engage NOvation Architecture Ltd. in the last number of years, spurring expansion within the company.
“Our emphasis on creating an exceptional office environment, along with our commitment to our clients, has been very key for us,” says Paul Schuster, who has been the owner and lead architect of NOvation for eight years. “We specialize in commercial, residential, high-rise, industrial and multi-family projects.”
NOvation Architecture, which boasts “recognizing the need for functionality while creating elegant design” as its motto, offers a wide range of architectural services, including conceptual design, architectural design and drafting, construction documents, project management and interior design. They use renderings and 3D graphics to help clients visualize the finished product and have recently added Virtual Reality to their repertoire to make the process even easier for their clientele.

NOvation Architecture has experience in designing and managing a variety of project types, including commercial, residential, institutional and industrial projects. Their diverse portfolio includes projects such as restaurants, commercial buildings, retail spaces, medical offices, multi-family residential buildings, high-rises and custom homes.
“The firm is committed to sustainable design practices and focuses on creating buildings that are energy-efficient and environmentally responsible,” says Paul. “We incorporate sustainable design practices into our projects, which can include passive solar design, energy-efficient lighting and mechanical systems, as well as low impact material choices.”
Paul states the company, started in 2016 as a sole proprietorship under NOvation Design Studio, and has grown steadily over the last eight years. The team currently includes one Architect, one Intern Architect, four Technologists, two Interior Designers, one Marketing and Media director, an Office Administrator and a golden retriever named Sophie, who is the newest addition that happily welcomes everyone to the office.
The team provides design and project management of all varieties of projects, with their main emphasis being public safety. They are hands-on with each project from start to finish.
“We offer an initial consultation to discuss the project type, location, size, scope and client expectations in a professional and thorough manner,” Paul explains. “Upon completion of the initial consultation, we generate a detailed proposal and contract, ensuring clarity and transparency with each client.”

Once the contract is signed, they conduct an on-site analysis to confirm job parameters and any possible constraints by utilizing City records, focusing on the form and character of the building prior to applying for a development permit.
“Upon securing the permit for development, we facilitate regular reviews and feedback sessions with the client throughout the duration of the project,” he says. “We collaborate on the interior design, assist with consultant approvals, source contractors, and provide our guidance throughout the selection process.”
They then create construction drawings for use of tendering in conjunction with building permits, coordinating with consultants to ensure seamless and accurate construction drawings.
“Once construction begins, if requested by the client, we can assist through the entire construction process – from managing shop drawing and field reviews, down to simple requests for information,” he adds. “We take immense pride in our work, in order to ensure our high standards are maintained. We strive to ensure that the final product exceeds our clients’ expectations.”
Paul says the keys to the company’s success are “the office dynamic and work environment. We are more than just a typical office – we operate more as a family unit. We all care about client relations and take pride in our workmanship.”
