NANAIMO – Diversification has been a key to the continued success of Industrial Plastics & Paints.

Long known as a custom fabrication shop carrying a wide variety of plastics, paints and resin solutions,  Industrial Plastics & Paints has brought in a new line of automotive paints and colour matching expertise.

“We have hired someone who has been matching paints for close to 15 years, and we’ve brought in a full line of Valspar paints,” says Murray Peters, who has been managing the family-owned Nanaimo store for the past 15 years. “If someone has a 10-year old car, the vehicle has 10-year-old paint on it, and they just can’t take the number on the side of a vehicle and expect it to be the proper match.”

Industrial Plastics & Paints is recognized as the go-to place for fiberglass supplies, due to its wide array of products.

CNC machines are used to manufacture finished products in their fabrication shops

“Our main thing is the spring and summer is fibreglass work, and do it yourself boat repair,” Peters states. “We don’t do the work here, but we specialize in what to sell to a customer, and provide advice on how they should be doing it.”

Industrial Plastics & Paints also carries plastic sheets and rods, coatings, fabrics, packaging, 3-D printing, brochure holders and dock supplies. They also work with many of the industry’s leading innovative brands, including 3M, Ames, Mohawk Finishing Products, Consolidated Coatings, System Three, West System, Lexan, Starboard, Performix, Worbla, Econodek and Dock Edge.

Their 11,000-plus square foot location at 2052 Boxwood Road is home to state-of-the-art equipment in two large fabrication shops for custom work.

“We can build anything out of plastic,” he says. “Our CNC routers are 5 x 10 foot, so we can work on any project that requires a sheet within those dimensions.

“Our custom fabrication is one of the big things that keeps us going through the winter months,” he adds. “We make a lot of display cases and dust covers for artwork. We also custom fabricate boat windows and windshields.”
