PARKSVILLE – The City of Parksville has been recognized for its ongoing efforts to remain carbon-neutral. The City received notification August 7 that it had successfully achieved its goal of corporate carbon neutrality for the 2014 reporting year. The formal recognition came from the Green Communities Committee, a joint Provincial Government – Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) entity created to develop strategies, actions, supports and incentives to help implement the Province’s Climate Action Charter.
“This is the fourth year the City has attained carbon neutrality and we are proud of that record,” said Mayor Marc Lefebvre. “The City has demonstrated its commitment to work with the province and UBCM to take action on climate change and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in our operations and we are pleased once again, to reach the goal of becoming carbon neutral.”
The Green Communities Committee was established under the Climate Action Charter to support local governments in achieving climate goals. The City as a Climate Action Charter signatory has been awarded Level 3 recognition – Achievement of Carbon Neutrality. Recognition is provided on an annual basis to local governments who demonstrate progress on their Climate Action Charter commitments.
