NANAIMO – HTEC will receive $10 million through the Investments in Forest Industry Transformation program for a renewable hydrogen production facility at the Harmac Pacific Pulp Mill, with the announcement made January 18 at the 20th Annual BC Natural Resources Forum in Prince George.
HTEC’s project at Harmac Pacific will produce clean hydrogen by electrolysis, with the hydrogen to be used as clean fuel for transportation and heating and help the mill decarbonize its operations.
A press release noted the HTEC project with Harmac Pacific is an example of how surplus energy from mills can be utilized to lower emissions and advance federal and provincial clean hydrogen goals. IFIT funded projects are aimed at further diversifying and enhancing sustainability of the forest sector and development of the Canadian economy through high-value bioproducts.

We are building multiple clean-hydrogen production facilities across the country, and this Nanaimo-based facility is a critical piece of the clean hydrogen value chain.
